I have a similar case in my family, Mags. My grandmother never mentioned the names of two of her brothers even though she knew I was interested in family tree. I found out that one brother had been killed in WW1 and the other brother married the widow of the first. Why didn't she mention the names? Was she ashamed that her brother had married his brother's widow? I don't think it was illegal at the time. Was it, perhaps, just a family squabble and they never spoke to each other again so their names weren't mentioned? We'll never know now. Margaret

thankyou for that but that's not him. I'd already checked the CWGC. Looks as though I might have to get the marriage cert for 1914 to see if thats him. Cheers Marie x

I'm not sure if anyone can help with this one but I thought it was worth a try ! I have a Matthew Rogerson born 1893 in Newcastle upon Tyne. He is the brother of my great grandfather, however I am told by family that no-one had ever heard of a Matthew. My great grandad had never mentioned him to any of his children and I can't find a death for him anywhere. Any ideas as to how I can find out what happened to him ?? Cheers Marie x
