Clive, I have a very old computer. It plays up quite a bit and I am still learning how to make it behave itself (not very successfully I might add)! One day.......... Also, I am no spring chicken, so like to take things one step at a time. I am off to bed now. Nighty night. |

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms why you do not use PAF 5 from the the Latter Day Saints. It is a free programme you run on your own machine. It is easy to use. You can upload from it to GRor Ancestry or TribalPages. Second thoughts - that may be a silly question. Some people only have company computers and can not run their own programmes. Mind you some IT departments will allow something like a family tree programme. Clive |

When you have the child you then click on 'Add father' so Genes is also assuming that the child has a mother - as is almost certain! If you had clicked on 'Add mother' instead of 'Add father' it would have given you a 'Father' box. If you have no idea who he was it just stays as 'Father'. Not sure what you do if it was an immaculate conception! |

No, Joyce, I had tried that. What you do when the 'Mother' box comes up is click on it, then go down the bottom to fill in her details. I was making the mistake of trying to 'Add Mother'. I had forgotten about that as it was quite a while since I had added to my tree. Peter kindly jogged my memory. |

Aha, yes, I see where I was going wrong. Thanks for that. Having a senior moment. Better keep adding while I remember. |

When you add the father it automatically creates the mother for you. You just go in and amend the name to what it should be. |

It is not as if I have had this problem in the past. In fact quite recently I added a wife without any trouble. |

I sometimes have problems when I want to add both parents to my tree. e.g. I am trying to add the parents of Richard B. They are Roger B and Elizabeth W. If I add Roger first it then brings up a box connected to him saying 'Mother'. When I try to add mothers details, i.e. Elizabeth W, it adds a new box with her name in, giving Roger 2 wives. I have tried various ways of doing it but nothing works. The computer will not let me delete 'mother' but it will let me delete Elizabeth W. One computer about to go out the window! |
