I AM ON THE PATH OF JAMES SOUTER BORN IN COCKFIELD SUFFOLK 1801 MY 5X GREATGRANDFATHER BUT THE FAMILY COME FROM SCOTLAND, HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER WERE BOTH NAMED WILLIAM SOUTER , IN THE LATE 1800'S - EARLY 1900'S THERE WAS A LIFE BOAT CALLED THE 'WILLIAM SOUTER ' . BUT WHERE WAS IT ???? CAN ANY ONE PLEASE HELP REGARDS SHEILA |

Hi Sheila There is a RNLI website http://www.rnli.org(.)uk/home It may take you some time to have a look though but if you click on 'RNLI near you' you will see a list on the right hand side of areas in the UK. From there you can go into an area and find individual lifeboat stations and there is quite a lot of info - some historical about the stations and lifeboats. Alternatively and much quicker there is a 'contact us' on the home page and you might be able to get some help from Head Office! Good Luck Maureen PS.Just seen Linda's reply above. These are the details for Arbroath RLNI. They should be able to tell you whether or not the 'William Souter' was stationed at Arbroath:- Arbroath Lifeboat Station R.N.L.I. The dates were 1888-1900 for the 'William Soutar' (note the difference in spelling). There is a photo. Kath. x |
