Dear all Someone in my tree is related to me by adoption (he was adopted into my family, rather than out of it). He was born in the 40s and died in the 90s, before I really started to research my tree. Before he died he said to another relative that he had found out the names of his biological parents and strongly hinted that he was a blood relative anyway, but for some reason didn't want to say how he was related. Is there any way I could find this out? I know that only the adoptee can trace their parents, but what happens if the adoptee has died? Anna

Hi Anna, I don't know if it's possible for you to find out the legal details of his adoption or not, maybe someone else does have an answer for you. What I would do as you know his date of birth is to look in the birth indexes for his quarter/year for any possible male children born to any unmarried female relative of a suitable age in the correct location that is unaccounted for. The sisters, aunts, cousins from his adopted family etc. Diana

Anna As far as I know, information about an adopted person dies with them, and there is no legal way you can find out. OC
