But...sometimes the IGI is the only place to find anything at all about your relatives without a visit in person to local records offices. Yes, treat the items submitted by members with caution, and make sure you record the fact that it is submitted by a member. Look everywhere else before recording the info from IGI, but I believe you can obtain access to the original document sent in by a member - anyone ever done that? I found a death of a relative that I have found nowhere else but on IGI, it is pre official records, and the local records office have searched for me and not found anything. So it is all I have at the moment. Margaret

The International Genealogical Index is run by the Morman church. Over the years they have transcribed many of the parish records and published them as the 'IGI's' There are gaps in some parishes and some parishes are missing. The info that has been abstracted is generally from the mid 16th century upto about 1840, with a few after this date. In addition to the IGI's, the Mormons have abstracted the english 1881 census. Over the years, family researchers have added their info to this site. All info obtained from the IGI's should only be used as a guideline until it can be proved. Ken

Im getting back into my research after a break and have a couple of questions which I hope you can kindly answer. How does the IGI work? I have typed info I have from censi and none of it shows, Also what is the best way to access parish records? Many thanks, Caz x
