When did the baptism take place? I know of a couple who adopted a child in the 1989. Although the child had been baptised soon after birth, his adoptive parents decided, when he was about 6 months old, to have him baptised again in their church and in the name that they had chosen for him. The priest told them that the ceremony was a blessing rather than a baptism (although it was identical in every way) as someone can't be baptised twice. As they were not his birth parents, they fulfilled the role of godparents at the ceremony. They are entered into the parish register as both parents and godparents. |

Very definitely Yes Father can be godfather or to use an old fashioned word 'sponsor' and a witness but does not have to be any of the above. Clive |

I didnt know you had witnesses at baptisms? You dont mean Godparents? Maybe it was the fathers relation, who had the same name? |
