Dont forget, Whoever registered the death might not have known exactly when the deceased was born, (yr at least) so could be wrong. the information is only as good as the person giving it. |

If you read the web page there is a One Name Study of the surname Laflin, so you should contact the lady in question - there should be a fair bit of available information. |

You may well be right, but we have learnt that when you ASSume something, you often end up looking lik an...... lol I suppose it could well be possible that when Lily reported her sister's death (Lily was the Informant on Violet's death cert) she may not have recalled her birth data correctly, but i guess we just want to confirm that using another source before we go back into the Laflins in Stow. Also the birth 8th March may not have been registered till the April. June Qtr covers Apr May and June. I would be tempted to order the birth certificates for the sisters. Good Luck |

Maybe she was born in Stow but moved to London very young. |

Thanks everyone, esp Selena!! We've found Violet in Stow, but concerned that both the date of birth and the place do not match with what's on the death certificate. Violet and Lily are indeed sisters. Searches of the 1901 census cannot locate either. Nicky |

My fiance is trying to track down his father's side of the family. It's not one of those scenarios where he's desperate to meet him, although if that comes about, so be it, its more a case of finding the ancestors to go backwards. So far he's got a death certificate for a great-aunt, Violet Mary Harman (nee Laflin) who died 21/5/1972 in Hammersmith Hospital, west London, which shows that she was born in Kilburn 8/3/1896. BMD index and census does not show any Violet Mary Laflin with those birth details. The only other thing he knows is that his grandmother, Lily Matilda Barton (nee Laflin) died in the Eastbourne area around 1984/5. Once again BMD index drew a blank. She may have been calling herself Laflin instead of Barton, apparently she fell out with her hubby..... Any suggestions on how he can proceed (other than a post in 'Trying to Find' which is already in place!) would be very much appreciated! Thanks people! Nicky |
