could someone tell me why i can find my greatgrandfathers name on cenus but cant find my gggrans name .please help thank you.

Do you mean after they married.......or before? Which census? What are the names, birthplaces and birth years? Reg

both before they where married and after i found there marriage details but thats all .

my greatgrandfathers name is edward charles gratton born in sunderland .1872 and catharine matilda peters was my great gran they married in croydon i dont know where she was born .

I found their marriage record in Croydon 1902, so i would think that Catherine was living in Croydon at the time of the 1901 census, but, not necessarily, there are quite a few Catherine Peters about in 1901 .If i were you i would buy the marriage certificate to confirm her fathers name and occupation and then you should find her in 1901 and you can then work out her date and place of birth xx

You really need to buy the marriage cert, if you haven't already done so. It will tell you her age at the time, plus the name and occupation of her father. With that info to hand, you stand a better chance of finding the correct person on the census. If they were not married before 1901, there is no way that you can link her name with her husband's......... Reg
