Hi Is there an easier method of sending just relevant parts of my tree to others who are rellies without having to type it all out, as I no longer want to allow open access.? If the families are large and each of their families are large it`s not easy typing them all out each time and being sure it`s correct. Jay |

If you only have your tree on Genes, then you can't do it. You need a programme such as Family Tree Maker which will allow you to make a file with only selected individuals in it. Sam x |

You need to keep your main tree on a PC program such as FTM, not on this site. This has a number of advantages, in that you can upload a reduced tree onto GR with only the names that you want other people to connect with and also can produce bespoke reports to email to other people with just the info they are interested in. |

Hi. Thanks for that. I already use FTM but how would I send it from there to the contact on GR. Would I have to ask for their email address rather than doing it through GR ? Jay. |

Yes. You select the branch of tree that you want in FTM and then you export it as a GEDCOM. You can then email it to the person concerned. If they have no way of opening a GEDCOM file, you can export it to a PDF file. Can't remember how but I know I've done it before! Sam x |

The down side is that you will have to exchange email addresses, so you still need to exchange a few messages to be satisfied that each of you is bona-fide to the other. FTM (and presumably other tree programs) will allow you to export bespoke reports in PDF or text format. This is extremely useful as the other party does not necessarily have to have a tree program themselves. All you do is create a report, save to file and then email as an attachment. |

Hi, I ask for a reply email address. You can do a genealogy report from FTM on the branch of the family you are interested in. When the report comes up on the screen right hand click the mouse and select copy. I then paste the report into word and edit out any details I do not wish to transfer. It can then be sent as a word document but I prefer to send it as a pdf file. Cheers Paul |
