Hi, can anyone help me. I'm researching my dads family history but have so far not managed to do very well on his dad's side. All i have is his name: Harry Bradley born Cheshire. His wife Elsie Bradley was born in 1890, so can only presume he was born around the same time, give or take a few years. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. |

When was your dad born? Was he the eldest child? This would help you pin down when Harry and Elsie married. If you then bought their marriage certificate it would give you their ages and the names of thir fathers, making it easier to trace them. Do you know Elsie's maiden name? Again, your dad's birth registration would tell you this. Sam x |

Do you know whereabouts in Cheshire? You could see if you can find him in the 1901 census. |

It would probably be Wirral in Cheshire, but the only match under the 1901 census is a Harry Bradley in Crewe Cheshire and he was 12 at the time of the census. could well be him though |

It could well not be him also. There is no point tracing the family of the man you have found only to find in six months time that he does not actually belong in your family. You really need the marriage certificate so that you can get his age and his fathers details. Do you know Elsie's maiden name or not? If not, you need your dad's birth registration/certificate as well. Sam x |

Find your dad's birth registration...........it will have Elsie's maiden name listed.......... Then find their marriage........the cert (cost £7.00)will tell you how old each of them was at the time...........and the names and occupations of their fathers. One step at a time................. Reg |

Sam is right - NEVER assume - the one thing you must always remember when researching - however much you want someone to be related you must prove everything. |

Been there, done that. Spent ages researching a particular person and his family only to find six months later that it wasn't my great-great grandad after all. Luckily it was his cousin so all my reasearch didn't go totally to waste... Sam x |
