Does anyone know if it easy to locate the service records of WW1 soldiers? I am enquiring about the two brothers below for somebody who lives in Canada. Major Frederick Wilfred Robinson DSO, MC of the 8th BN. Machine Gun Corps was killed in action 28 March 1918, aged 28. Second Lieutenant Arthur H Robinson 25 Bn. Royal Fusiliers was killed in action in Tanzania (German East Africa), 11 June 1917. Both men are listed on the CWGC web-site. Are actual service records on the Public Record Office web-site? I tried looking myself but wasn't sure where to look. Is there some kind person out there who can help or point me in the right direction?

I found, by googling, a Cambridgeshire Roll of Honour site, which has info about Frederick http://www.roll-of-honour(.)com/Cambridgeshire/CambridgeLeysSchoolWW1.html Omit brackets when copying and pasting.......... For Service records, I believe you need the nationalarchives website Reg

WW1 medals are on the national archives site under documents on line. From those cards you will get the reference numbers needed to trace further. Sheila

Officers service records are searchable by name on the National Archives catalogue - ref WO339 or WO374. Major F H Robinson is on there, ref WO339/308. Didn't look for the other name, as there are so many Robinsons, but you could plough through them all! The records aren't online, so you would have to go there, or get someone else to go for you, or as you have the reference, you could order the documents to be sent to you.
