In the 1881 census, living in the household of George Massie is.....MARY, nee Mawdsley, wife'......JOHN ROBERTS, 'stepson', WILLIAM ROBERTS, 'stepson'....JANE TAYLOR, 'Sister in law'..... Now, Mary had a sister called Jane so because she is recorded as 'sister in law' can I assume !!!!! that is who she is. ????? When I access freebmd there are a few Jane Mawdsleys` in the right area at about the right time, but no Taylor comes up as the husband ie 'on the same page'. Advice please very welcome Kathlyn |

Long shot might be that she is George's stepsister. If son-in-law and daughter-in-law are interchangeable for stepson and stepdaughter it might be a possibility? Jill |

Hi Jill, As far as I can see, George only had a sister Sarah and his father died pre 1851. His mother was 50 at the time of that census and his father was dead but I suppose she could have re-married. That is a road I think I may go down. Kathlyn |

Hello Reg, (The guy who always comes to the rescue) George was born in Waverton, Cheshire abt 1840. Mary, his wife, was born in 1851 in Kirkby, Lancs. In the 1881 census George and Mary are living in Liverpool. Kathlyn |

HI Margaret, I have that census info. George lived as a boarder before he and Mary married in 1894, but he did record her as 'wife' before 1894. George must have liked the name Mary as his first wife was also a Mary. Kathlyn |

I see now, it was the 1891 census that you were talking about originally. That's the one that has the stepsons and the sister-in-law. |

Yes margaret, I suppose you could call it senior moment. With having to remember so much data I am surprised we are not all doolally. Kathlyn |

Isn't it a prerequisite of this hobby? We have to be a little doolally before we start then we go a little doolallier! Margaret |
