I have Ambrose Greenwood in the 1901 Census living with his parents and siblings in Cornholme, Todmorden. On the transcribed info it says his condition is married, but there is no wife on there - granted she could have been elsewhere that day. However, when you actually look at the image and compare the other M's for married on that page, Im sure that it is acutally a W for widowed not M for married. If anyone wants me to email them the page then I am more than happy to. I have found a possible marriage for him in 1896 in Todmorden. But then I know that he had at least one child, being Florence May Greenwood who was born in 1904 and a possible sister of Elizabeth Selina Greenwood in 1906, both born in Burnley, and a possible marriage in Burnley in Q3 1903 if it is indeed a W not a M in 1901. |

Hi Rebecca, It's definitely a W for Widower so I would think the marriage in 1903 is him Carlè |

oh Bless! Out of the two possible women he could have married, Sarah Hannah Rigg or Eliza Stansfield, I can only find one realistic death for one of them as a Greenwood between marriage in Q2 1896 and him showing as a widow in 1901 and thats Eliza Greenwood in Q41896 in Todmorden, bless them both - not a very long marriage :o( |

No, shame wasn't it. Childbirth I expect. Oh god, so glad we live in the age of modern drugs and equipment!! |

There is an Ernest Greenwood born and died in Q41896 in Todmorden, but the first name doesnt really fit with any of the Greenwood family names so I dont think its right |

aye, child birth and winter up in them there hills :o( guess though that theres not much point looking for a baby, as Ambrose doesnt have any children with him in the 1901 Census - so guess he lost wife and child :o( booo hoooo |

There is a chance that the name Ernest came from Eliza's side of the family. |
