excuse my stupidity and I should know cos I used to live down there but cant think at moment. When I want to look at certs for my Nottinghamshire families I go to Nottingham archives easy peasy but I have a possible marriage that I want to look at the cert for (not order it). Marriage took place in Rye, East Sussex in 1920s where would be the nearest place that would keep the records to look at? |

Dawn if it was a church wedding you should be able to see the Book. I have seen wedding details up to mid 70's they were stored at local archives. However don't know where the local archives for Rye would be. Might be Lewes cos i think and only think there is a RO there. Ours are actually held in a library the main one for our London borough |

Dawn ), it's pretty confusing but from what i can gathher they do hold records after 1920's saw some date sup to 1980's. Think this is what they hold for Rye.... under Ecclesiastical parishes. Rye (ACC 2543) (ACC 2661) r1892- 1987 o 1861 - 1991 (ACC 5718, 5740) r1974 - 1993 (ACC 61313, o1610 -1995 (ACC 6753) o1812 (ACC 7592) quinquennial inspection and related papers 1950 -1959 (private donation) (ACC 9119) Think thats right as couldn't copy paste!!!!!!! BTW r means dates of registers and o means date of other papers. might be worth calling them if they don't hold what you want they should know where it is???? Shelli thanks for all that, dont think Rye has a registry office (never saw one when I worked there) thought Hastings was the nearest and I know when we registered my FiL death registrar there was saying how they were putting all there records on computer to make it easier to find. Think its called S*ds Law as lived in Hastings for 17 years and since we moved away have found two relatives that have moved down to that area and married there. |

Dawn If I can help at all just say..... beds or books, ..Lol. I wonder if Rye library ( do they have one?) has filmed records that I could browse for you.....if it was a church wedding. It would be a pleasant little outing from here. Gwyn |
