Can anyone help me please? A friend loaned me a Ancestry Package for my computer as he knew I was interested in tracing my ancestors. I loaded and installed it, then followed the GR instructions to export my tree to a GED file. When I imported it to the new system, I found I could access a word-pad document and easily make overdue corrections to some dates, i.e. change 23/10/58 to 23 OCT 1958. I did a Save As on this new word pad file then re-imported it to GR. I didn't get an error message from GR but, upon viewing my tree, the tram-lines were all crushed to the left side of my screen. It was a real mess, so I decided to re-import the original exported file back to GR thinking I could at least make corrections manually from the word pad list. Much to my dismay, the tram-lines are still crushed and running through people making it impossible to see who is connected to who. Obviously I've now lost (over-written) my original GR file (date errors and all) and I'm hoping someone might know what I can do (if anything) to correct this. I've spent the entire weekend, kicking myself. Shelley

Don't quite understand the problem you are having. Which View are you trying to look your GR tree with?

Hi Peter If I go into full view or print preview, everything is crushed to the left of the screen therefore the tram-lines are running through others. In fact, at the very top of my page I have a short horizontal line with 3 verticals but no names. Sort of like an 'E' that's fallen over. It didn't do any of this before.

Okay, I think I've sorted out the problem but I had to go via a programme called Legacy 6.0. I imported my first GR export into Legacy, re-did my 'date' corrections and severed an incorrect link from my Great Grandfather - John Wm Chadwick 1859 - from a gentleman called Joshua Chadwick whom I wrongly assumed was my GGGF. (GR wouldn't allow me to remove him or 'change' my GGF's parents on the edit tools for some reason). Anyway, having done that, I saved the new Legacy file and exported a new GED file, then imported THIS new corrected version back into GR. Phew !!! Unfortunately, the family photographs which I uploaded have all disappeared but, I can re-add those. What a weekend !!! Shelley
