According to my tree my 2 grandfathers who were born in New Zealand and never ever left the country appear on the English/Welsh 1891 and 1901 censuses, and their wives who were born in England also appear on them, despite having come to New Zealand in the 1860s and 1870s. How can I remove this false information, please? |

Hi Huia Do you mean those drop down boxes that appear when you hover over somone in your tree? If, I doubt you can! I would think that it is a ploy by GR to get you to buy some credits to look them up on the census ;-))))) Jeanette x |

That, plus down the bottom there is a box for Historical Records. It makes me really mad that errors which I have not put there cannot apparently be removed. If I open my tree to other people they might try looking at them and take them as gospel. |

I suppose I could always change the names of the people to ***** or Noname. That might fix it. |

How about putting a * in front of the name......so John Smith becomes *John Smith....would that work? Then you don't have to remove the name completely. But I would also think that it won't show up matches for other people's trees either! |

I think I know all the people who are descended from my grandparents. Most of them live in NZ. I am not sure if I am allowed to have *John as a first name. I have sometimes tried a ? after a name when not sure, and it wont let me do that. Ah well, I guess I just have to put up with the errors and make sure my contacts know that it isnt my fault! Another thought would be to put in the notes a disclaimer for the errors, pointing out that the person cannot possibly have been on the English censuses. |

It's a flippin' nuisance though isn't it! The vast majority of my lot were born in Yorkshire. In the place of birth field if I type in Hull I am given the option of Hull, Humberside. Humberside only existed for just over 20 years and only my eldest daughter was born in Humberside....and she's not even in my tree! The rest of us were born in Yorkshire. But are GR going to change it? Nah! |

As jeanette says, its GRs way to entice us into buying credits but to be fair I doubt the way its worded would make viewers of your tree believe the census entries were definitely for your rellie. eg for my gt grandma the following appears: Historical records Searching over 300 million historical government records for Jane Everett born 1852. Results for Jane Everett born in 1852 in Genes Runited census records. (England and Wales) Census Matches View 1901 census 11 1891 census 8 1871 census 6 1861 census 2 1851 census 0 1841 census 0 Surely most researchers would know that she couldn't be all of these people :-) (in fact she only matches 2 of them as she married in 1878) |
