Can anyone tell me how to go about finding out about divorces. Have just received my Uncles marriage certificate for 1949. It shows his as the divorced husband of Annie Louisa Manning formerly Collier. I have found that marriage now and it looks like he did have children with her. His second marriage in 1949 is to a 45 year old spinster where I would think there would be no children. Would love to find out when he did divorce though. Any help would be appreciated. Jo

This address will do a ten year search for a divorce:- PRINCIPAL REGISTRY OF THE FAMILY DIVISION FIRST AVENUE HOUSE 42-49 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON WC1 6NP It costs about £20, and it helps if you have the date of the marriage and both names (which you have). If you know where they lived, you can also look through the births in that area for children with the surname Manning with mother's maiden name Collier. You can do this for free on Ancestry by just registering your email address with the site. Kath. x

Thank you Kath for that information. I do already have the 3 children born during his first marriage which I found this morning on Ancestry. Events changed considerably this morning when this marriage certificate arrived as I thought he had married late in life and had no children - how wrong can you be. Jo
