Hi All, Thanks for reading this - If you can help too I would be most most most appreciative. I am trying to find my grandfathers birth / marriage of even his existence, with no joy! He was born WILLIAM FAIRCLOUGH in April 1906 in the Liverpool area, we understnad he was one of the youngest of 22 children and that he possibly had twin siblings.... (possible names for siblings: Elsie, Kitty, George, Tommy (died as a baby) and Malcolm. All we know of his life is that he went in the army, he had two children called TOMMY and MARY but then split with thier mother and remarried my grandmother, althought there is no record of this marriage either..... I'm not sure which avenue to take now, I was hoping to find something of his parents and siblings on the 1901 census but I cant find anything..... Please could someone have a look? I would be most grateful Many Thanks |

If I were you I would send for his birth certificate and that would give you the names to look for on the 1901 census, hopefully there would be some of his siblings on there if there were 22 of them. Have you searched the entire marriage index? Ann |

Hi His second wife was Gwendoline Smith. The birth of his eldest daughter (with Gwen) was 1945 Patricia and she was born in Surrey. I know most of the info from when he married Gwen (or rather got together shall we say) until he died aged 81 in 1988 in Essex. Its the information of his birth and his family that I'd like to tace. I've found a few William Faircloughs born around Liverpool around the time he was born, but how do you know which is him? Many Many Thanks to you all for helping |

This would be the death reg'n.......... Name: William Fairclough Birth Date: 9 Apr 1906 Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 1988 Age at death (estimated): 82 Registration district: Thurrock Inferred County: Essex Volume: 9 Page: 2893 You could send for the birth cert for which I posted the refs..........quoting the actual DOB as a checking point. If it doesn't match, they won't send the cert, and will refund part of your payment. If it is the one, you will have the names of his parents to aid your search. Reg |

Thanks Again, I think I will have to wait until the 1911 census release to find out anything further. Yes I could buy the Birth Cert but I have no way of knowing if it is the correct William Fairclough or not...... There has been research into his marriage to my nan but no results so no further leads to follow. Thanks for all your help anyway. |

Kim, you DO have a way of knowing if its the correct birth certificate. As Reggie said earlier you can give the exact date of birth (as shown on his death entry) as a checking point. Good hunting Judith |
