Hi I requested what I though was my ancestors birth cert on friday but its turns out the registrars have rang me and the parents are incorrect. Do I purchase this cert or not ? Can't find another birth for her anywhere ? It was for Margaret O'Hara 1872 Dec Qtr. Cheers Marie x

As the birth as before 1875, it may not have been registered. Registration wasn't compulsory until that year. Reg

There are 3 Margaret O'hara's births registered in the december quarter 1872... Births Dec 1872 (>99%) O'HARA Margaret Leeds 9b 438 O'HARA Margaret Newcastle On Tyne 10b 79 O'HARA Margaret Aston 6d 338 Georgina.

Sorry, meant to say that she was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. Can't seem to find registrations for the other kids either so I think Regs' explanation is probably likely. Thanks for your comments. Marie x

If that's your family I see registrations for all the children. What names did you specify for the parents? The mother is listed as Mary Ann in 1881 and just Mary in 1891. The problem with specifying too much is that they won't send the cert. if things don't match exactly. If you said Mary Ann for the mother and she's just listed as Mary that might be enough for them to say it's not a match. Rose

Sorry I haven't put enough info on here. The parents were John O'Hara and Jane O'Hara. Brothers and sisters were Robert, John, and then on later census Emma and Thomas. Apologies, but will check properly later as I'm at work and my census info is at home lol ! Marie x
