I now have over a thousand people in my database but still I cannot find out anything about my grandfather. Is there anyone who can help in the Greenock area please? Although he was born in that area, his parents many have been Irish immigrants. He moved south in his 20's to look for work. I am really sad about this as I have been able to find out so much about other people. I am sure he would have had brothers and sisters. Anyway his name on his marriage certificate was James Patrick MacDonald born c 1887. His father was Dominic MacDonald a sailor. I don't always reply to every post so please don't think I am being ignorant.

Unless you have found him on a census, or traced his birth registration, you can't actually be 100% certain where he was born............ Reg

Well I have to accept that he was telling the truth on his marriage certificate. He died in 1918 just after the end of hostility in France. I do have his army number and grave location.

There is a birth on Scotlands people for a James Patrick Mcdonald in 1887, you will need to buy credits to view the birth certificate. Georgina.

Thank you. Yes I am aware of quite a few J P MacDonalds on there but none of them has Dominic as a father. In fact there aren't many Dominics at all. I fear that the information I need will be Irish and could have been lost. I was just hoping that an actual MacDonald/Mcdonald descendant might see this really.
