Freebmd/birth ref – 1839 – March – Caroline Amelia Jupp – Malling Freebmd/Marr.ref – 1860, Maidstone - Amelia Caroline Jupp to Geo. Birth Cert – 1878 – daughter Emma Beatrice to George (slaughter man) and Caroline Duddy nee Jupp Census – 1881 – George Duddy, wife Caroline, b West Malling – age 43, siblings George b Wolverhampton 8, and Emma, b Southwark, aged 3 Census – 1891 – Caroline Duddy, b West Malling, son George, b Wolverhampton, age 18, Ema B, b London Southwark, age 18 Marriage Cert - 1899 – Emily Beatrice Duddy age 20, father George, butcher, to Charles Harman Birth Cert. – 1906 – son – to Charles and Emily Beatrice Harman, age 20, nee Duddy Opinions please as to whether Caroline, Caroline Amelia, Amelia Caroline are the same person Equally are Emily Beatrice, Emma Beatrice, Ema B one and the same person. Birth areas and ages seem to tally. Info on the two censuses tally with a slight discrepancy for Caroline on the 1891. Occupation of George Duddy father of Emily et al seems to be the is slaughterman or butcher so same trade A concensus is needed before I risk more money on certs. Thanks Rita PS - will be back later as have to go out.

Looks like it to me! My Mary Emma is Mary Emma on her birth certificate - but Emma Mary at baptism! She marries as Emma Mary, is Mary on her daughter's bc, and dies as Polly Emma! She also has a sister Emily, who is called Emma in the family... I knew both these ladies, so I knew the complications of their names. I would think your is right. OC

Thanks OC - If you reckon it then I couldn't possibly dispute it. I was hoping that would be the conclusion. More money to ONS will be on it's way shortly. Regards Rita

There are plenty of records where people seem ot swap their names to and fro. And Emma seems to have been a diminutive of Emily, at one point, rather than a completely separate name. It's a reasonable starting point. Christine
