How do i double check i've got the right John Duke b 1825 Kimberworth? On 1871 census it states he was in Hythe Barracks, Hythe, Kent and he was a private? Thanks Pamx

Have you found him on earlier censuses? If so, do the details of his parents match those of the person you are researching? Have you found him later? Or found his marriage? Reg

So he was in the Army in 1851......not 1871, right? His marriage cert will have his father's name and occupation.........have you found him with his family in 1841? When did he marry? Was he still in the Army? Reg

Looking at the 1851 image, the birthplace is definitely not Kimberworth........... It looks, in fact, more like Kirby Lonsdale, which is actually in Lancashire. His age is 24.....born 1826/7 I see that in 1861, he gives his age as 33............ Reg

In 1861, there is a 10 year old child in the family.........one would have thought that he would have been married prior to 1861 census.......... Reg

Just got him with his father John Duke b 1795. and mother Sarah I'd filed it under his mothers maiden name Littlewood. So i have all census but needed to check the 1851 (Barracks) it says he's from Kirkby??? but on looking at the original to me it looks more like Yorkshire Kimberworth. Pamx

I think her name was Jane Allison from Messingham Lincolnshire if it was then i found a marriage for 3Q 1860 in Sheffield which makes me think he must have been married before. Thanks for census i still can't locate it yet. Pamx

Sorry, Pam, but I can't agree with you about the birthplace on 1851......... You need his marriage cert, if you haven't already got it........do you know Jane's maiden surname? I see she was from Lincolnshire.......... Reg
