William Selwyn Hewson, b 22/5/1904 in Thames, NZ was one of 8 siblings, all now deceased. On 21/12/1929 he married Lillian Mary Schofield (b 1911 in Salford Lancs). The marriage was in Auckland. A son, William Donald Hewson was born on 9/3/1931. William and Lilian were divorced(Nisi in 1933, absolute on 27/11/1936) on the grounds of his adultery. William died on 12/6/1942 in Syria and is buried in the Alleppo War cemetry. Family lore says that Lilian took William Donald to Australia, although maintenance payments from his father were still being administered by the public trust in Wellington in 1942.... William Donald Hewson is the only cousin of my wife's who I haven't managed to trace, and I really want to complete the set.... Any ideas?????? Peter

There's also a marriage for him in NSW in 1956 - I won't put the details on here, as his wife may still be alive, but you can find it by searching the NSW BMD site I linked to above. The NSW birth index only goes up to 1906, so I don't know whether they had any children. If you get his death cert., it'll give full details of his wife/wives and children. You can get it directly through the BMD site or order a transcription (which costs much less) from an authorised agent: http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToSearch.htm You could also ask Cherilyn on the Tips Board to do you a look-up - she has some discs which are more recent than the online index (at least she was doing look-ups - I just looked for her thread and couldn't find it, so maybe it's been deleted).

Peter, you asked 'what would we do without this site?' Probably get a lot more housework, decorating, gardening etc done.
