I've searched for every variation of the name i can think of 10 years either side of 1796 and only one other possible came up, born in 1791, but died in 1792 so it looks like the Wakefield record is correct. thanks for the advice on the name variations, i'm now much happier i have the correct record, Sharon x

Try looking up Arundel, Arandall and variations of that name. I have ancestors coming from Glasshoughton near Wakefield. The various spellings are often used in one family and among silings being baptised just a few years apart, including the name you've recorded. Shelagh.

What about Arundel? OC

Its actually really uncommon, if you do a search on the 1841 census including soundex and variations it only comes up with around 100 Arrundales in the whole country, about 20 or so in Yorkshire, and that's a full 50 years or so after Joseph was born

Joseph Arrendale born c 1796. Four census returns, places of birth given variously as Alverthorpe, Stanley and Wakefield. Alverthorpe and Stanley are within a stones throw of each other, both within a couple of miles of Wakefield town centre. Neither Alverthorpe or Stanley had a parish church until after 1825 and according to the Wakefield FHS events from both hamlets would have been registered at Wakefield All Saints. Wakefield All Saints is extensively covered by the IGI and i have found a christening record for Joseph Arrandale dated July 29th 1796 (Joseph was very consistent as to his year of birth over four cencus). I checked and Bishops transcripts run from 1600-1846, transcribed indexes are available from the YAS for the years 1613-1812 (CMB) and the same for marriages, but according to the Wakefield FHS site IGI coverage is comprehensive covering 1600-1846. My question is then, having searched the whole batch for All Saints for any Arrandales and only coming up with the one, christened in the right year, is it fair to assume that this is the correct record, or should i still pay for a transcription or search ?
