Carol Don't get too hung up on tiny details like second initials...........you have to allow for illiteracy, bad writing, poor eyesight and hearing.................all sorts of little impoderables. It's entirely possible that the enumerator thought the second name was Helen, or Helena, rather than Eleanor. 'Say' them in your mind, and realise how easily they can be misunderstood.......... You will find all sorts of mistranscriptions and odd spellings of names...............you have to allow for such things in genealogy...........all part of the 'fun' Reg

hi Angela, my grandmother`s middle initial was E not H i had info that she lived with her grandmother Elizabeth Mann in 1901 census. i no from her birth cert that her mother was sarah Eleanor, formerly Mann so its her mother`s mother that was or could have been Elizabeth.. i`m more interested in the male line.. Robertson.. her father was James Arthur, his father appears to have also been james not sure if there was a middle name born approx 1850,( tho i cant find it,,) in scotland Cari

She might have been staying somewhere else on census night.

i was looking for my scottish roots, i started by getting my grand mothers birth certificate Sarah Eleanor born 1899, which shows her father as being James Arthur Roberson, mother Sarah Eleanor Robertson nee Mann born approx 1873.. it could be that my great great grand father was also called James Robertson born in Scotland approx 1850 married to Isabell.. living in Hartlepool co Durham any further info on the male robertson line dates, births death marriage would be great, would like to no where in Scotland my Great Great grand father was born many thanks Cari
