Hi Andrea also - she;s 12 on that 1861 census, but when they married in 1869 she was 26? Do you think that was a mistranscription/mistake or do you think it may be a different Sarah Ann? Thanks again Laura

Yes one of the better (or worse) mistranscriptions. Haven't been able to find them in 1851.

Hi - thanks Judith and Andrea Andrea - you say they're Hockings and the father is called Francis, not Terence - was it just mistranscribed then? Thanks again, Laura

Right, well I've had the marriage certificate through though it's still not much help. joseph Weeks was 26 and a widower when he married sarah ann hocking (also 26) in Redruth on 30.1.1869. His father Joseph was deceased, a copper miner, and her father was Francis, also a copper miner. The Weeks family were living in Kehelland and The Hockings in Manadawa? Camborne ( i dont' recognise this name and can't seem to find it, not easy to read on the cert). I've found Joseph snr on the cornish mining index, aged 55 in 1851, b Gwinear and living North St. Joseph Henry (jnr) is al;so there, age 17, b Tywardreath and living North St. So why can't I find them? Or the Hockings? How can I search the census on just the address ? Thought I knew how to do it but can't seem to do it on Ancestry. Thanks Laura

I've just trawled through the birth indices from 1837 to 1850 and unless I'm missing it I can't see a Joseph Weeks born in Redruth area. Groan!

I think my cousin has this one - it's where we got the parents names from.... it's getting that one step back that is causing my frustration! lol Laura

It's such a confusing one. I've kind of left this branch for ages now, concentrating on others, and just turned back to it now. Funny really, as it's my fathers line so quite important! I've ordered a couple of certificates tonight, so hopefully that should help. Joseph Henry b1869 did go out to South Africa to run a hotel in the late 1800s (I think) and therefore doesn't appear on some of the censuses although his wife Louisa does with some of the children. For a long time, I've put the Week(e)s branch of my family to one side. A cousin has been researching it for years and we still can't seem to get any further back so I'm hoping someone on here will have some ideas for us! Joseph Henry Weeks b1969 Gwithian, Cornwall was my ancestor. He married Louisa Harris and his siblings were Annie, Elizabeth, Thomas, Eliza, Francis, Alfred, Louie, Ernest, Ethel and Stanley. The last few children died young. His mother was Sarah Ann Hocking and she died in childbirth with Stanley. His father was Joseph Wix (Wicks/Weeks?). In December 1863 I have Joseph Weeks marrying Susan Ann Symons, who died. Then in March 1869 he marries Sarah Ann Hocking. I think her father was called Francis and that she was born c.1839. I think Joseph was born c.1843 in Gwinear. I can't seem to find out any more of these two! Have just ordered the marriage certificates in the hope they may give me some more info - but why can't I seem to find them on the bmd indices or on the census? The closest I can find is 1851 in Merther - Joseph H Weeks b1847 in Probus (grandson), his mother Elizabeth b1829 Merther, her mother Margaret b1786 St Erme and another of Margarets daughters Ann Harris 1817 Merther..... there are Harris connections later on so this looks promising... or am I clutching at straws? Thanks in advance you wonderful people ;) Laura
