Jenny Adding names of living persons to this site means getting their agreement. However, as I read your original post, if you are thinking of setting up a seperate website..... If you are only adding BMD references from the GRO indices then I can't see there would be a problem with that....All the info is in the public domain. However, having said that, I would suggest you couldn't make (visiable online) connections for references, by way of a tree?, that could connect living people. Chris

You can have a 'private tree' on tribal pages with password access even to view. You can set up your own website and display info how you like. On my own site you can only access 'my' area if you know the url (www.clive-buckle*co.uk/buckle.htm) but if you do not know the bit after the / you need more knowledge than the average snooper. My preference is to give enough info and an email address so that living (if/when agreed) by be exchanged by GED file. Any help? Clive

OK, I have just been onto a web site that studies the name Lanchbury, my GGrandmothers maiden name. This is not the name I am talking about. Just 'Google' Lanchbury. Just doing a quick look and the first page of Births, they have a birth of someone born in 1945. It is a well established website, Rootsweb, that obviously allows you to have your own website as such. So it looks as if I have answered my own question Lol. Thanks Jenny. .

Janice, I have looked on the site and my name is not registered. It is only £10 to register the name and you get a lot of benefits etc. Thanks. Annie, I do not intend to do my one named study on GR. I do not even have my tree on here now, due to security issues. I have never put 'living' people on my tree although many others do so. I believe it is not against GR rules to do so, but I imagine they do not recommend it. Jenny

You cannot add details of living people without their permission to your genes tree, but there is nothing to stop you starting a website of your own. You could, I suppose, compromise, and enter living people as Mary Bloggs, born 1962, Luton, or whatever - non specific, but enough to interest anyone who might have a connection. And have you checked to see that your name is not already a one name study? OC

Thanks OC. As I said on my latest post, I do not intend to use GR for my study. I am going to pop onto another website now that deals with a one named study, of another of my ancestors,and see how they have succeeded. Jenny.

My surname is on a name study.No-one can view my details only the owner.There is also someone else doing a name study on genes(mums maiden name) off her own back and must be trawling the bmd and has no-ones permission to add on genes.Annie

I have a very unusual maiden name. I have been tracing my ancestors for four years now, but have only been able to get back to my 6x Grandparents who both died in 1808. I need to see other Parish Records from the East End of London to get back further. I have now been able to connect every ***** surname that appears on the census from 1841 to 1901 to my family tree, all connected to my 6xGrandparents. There are only 230 people with the same surname as me listed on the census 1841 to 1901. I think there was one other GC member who had the name ****in their tree when I joined GC four years ago. Now there are about 20. I try to help them as much as possible, but most are a lot younger than me and I cannot always connect them to those on the 1901 census, unless they are willing to buy their Granparents Birth or Marriage Certs. Here's where I need advise. As I cannot go back any further at the moment, I have started connecting all ***** born after 1901 etc. It is a lot easier than I thought. I would love to set up a website of a One Name Study, like others that I have seen. Does anyone know if I am allowed to put living peoples Births and Marriages on this list? After all they can be found on the Web via BDM's on Ancestry etc. So can I do the same? Any views, experiences or ideas would be most welcome. Thanks Jenny.
