I have been lucky enough to trace both the adoptive and birth families of my grandmother. I am not sure how to annotate my family tree with both families. Can anyone advise me how to do this? Terry

If you only use GR I've no idea. With RootsMagic you can definitely have both families on the system. With PAF, reading the help file, you put on both families and the only problem will be that printing a family group will not print both natural and adopted children. Reading between the lines this means you can show both in a tree. If you are in a position to have a programme on your computer (I known some companies will not allow employees to do this) PAF is free from the Latter Day Saints site. (It might help if I say PAF stands for Personal Ancestry File. from the LDS go to downloads. It is easy to download and setup.. You do not need the extras until you have learnt all this one can do and many people do not bother even then.) Clive

I am pretty sure you cannot have two sets of parents, you will need to decide wether you are goin to follow your true birth line or an imaginative one!

Clive and Maid Marion Thanks for replying. I use Family Tree Maker software so I will dig deep into the instructions to see if I can do this. Terry

Hi Terry, It's fairly easy to have two sets of parents in FTM. First of all, you need to have created the person and added their real parents as usual. Next, go to the family view for the parents, so that the person is listed as a child. Put the cursor on the name of the child, go to the People menu and select Other Parents... In the resulting pop-up box, you will see a button called Create New Parents. From there it's fairly straightforward. Good luck! Chris
