In Dec 1874 (Liskeard) Mary Jane Knight-Ward married Thomas Hancock. She also appeared as Mary Jane Knight (first names) Ward.... Now, in 1881 she is living at Waterlane, St Ive, with her children Bessie 1880, George 1878 and Thomas Henry 1876. She is down as married, but also the head of the household. Thomas is nowhere to be seen. From this census, we know she was born in 1855 in Warleggen. In 1861 in Linkinhorne, we can see this family Mary J Knight 1855 daughter, b Warleggen Rebecca 1835 Warleggen, wife Selenia 1859 St Cleer, dau William 1827 St ?, Head But I can't seem to find anything inbetween? I have no idea when they name changed from Knight to Knight-Ward (if it indeed did) or if it was just her (ie. an earlier marriage) or the whole family. Can anyone find anything? Thanks, Laura

So, am I right in thinking then that maybe Rebecca's maiden name was Knight? She married a Ward? who died and then married a Geast? Which may explain Mary J having Knight and Ward as her names but not Geast? But why are they down as Knight in 1861? Hmmmmmmmm - will have a look on FreeBMD and see what combinations I can see :) Laura

OK.... struggling to find the original marriage.... There is one in December 1857 between Rebecca Floyd and William Knight in Truro (5c 304) but not sure if that could be it..... still wondering where the 3 names fit in. However - have just found the death of William William W Knight d Jun 1866 age 38 Liskeard, 5c 43 Wondering if the W could stand for Ward? Hence the name was Ward Knight not Knight Ward? Then obviously we have the marriage of Rebecca to John Geast. However, her name then was Rebecca Ward not Rebecca Knight. Wondered if she got married inbetween - can't seem to see this anywhere though. And I don't think it could be her maiden name, as I can't see a marriage for her with that name at the start. Laura

1841 I can find a Rebecca Floyd b1836, Gwinear and 2 Rebecca Knights, one born 1835 Gwennap and one born 1834 Gwennap? Laura
