Joyce, The N in the 1841 is no for the county, not the parish. Peter

Ann Byers (widow) married Thomas Morris 1850 at Hexham. 1851 census she is married but he is not on census. 1861 she is living with her mother and children at Hexham(seperate from husband) I have found a Thomas Morris on 1851 and 1861 census that says he was born at Hexham yet on 1841 he says No! Looks like they only got together to have kids! Joyce

Yes, but all the other census' have the place of birth. If you start with what you know and work backwards..... Hopefully your man will have been consistent in naming his place of birth and then you can go to the parish records. Victoria

If you have the bride and grooms forenames I'll have a look in the 1851 census. Tom

Thanks but the problem is by 1841 the groom is working in Hexham and census just says 'N' for born in parish, so I have no idea where to look for his birth. I have the marriage certificate Cheers Joyce

Well I would start with the 1901 census with your known ancestor and work back, buying certificates as necessary.

I have a marriage certificate which says the father of the groom is a weaver. I have no idea where the groom was born but he was living in Hexham in 1850. He was born in 1820. The father is called William Morris (weaver). Where do I start to look ...anyone got any ideas? Thanks Joyce
