Can someone tell me, please, are these held by the church or in some central place? |

The obvious thing to do is to call the church direct. |

Thanks everyone. Church has now responded: the phone is only manned 2 days a week just for a couple of hours so you have to time it right (but without that info being available before you try lol!) |

Just in case it helps anyone else. If you establish where the Catholic Diocese HQ is for the Church concerned, you may find they have old registers. If they have a website you may find they have an email contact and/or phone number for an archivist. However, you need to bear in mind that the person concerned is unlikely to be full time, so be prepared to wait for a reply. As an example Nottingham Diocese covers the whole of the East Midlands, their archivist is also a parish priest & only visits the archives a maximum of 1 day a week. You also may find that a few parishes have provided information to the county records office for the church concerned, in some cases fiches may be available. |

Looking at "Guide 1: List of Sacramental Registers" held by the Dioces of Westminster Archives, it's not clear to me that the Diocese crossed the R Lea - it does include Poplar which is on the West bank. |
