Could also just be a mark made by 'officer' when checking all entries done. ie a sort of tick ..

Unusual! The index does have just a dash under MMN and freebmd transcribe this as unknown. Two possible reasons spring to mind - the child had been abandoned, given a name and surname but obviously no mother's name would be known or the Index compiler could not make out the name on the copy of the Register.

The actual birth cert might help.

Not sure if this is the right board to post this on, but here goes,

I've been looking for any children of a Leslie Gordon Lewis b.1909 and his wife Winifred Bragg, they m in East Glamorgan, Wales in the J-S Qtr 1945.

Having found a possible daughter b.1951 in Bridgend looking at the transcript under mothers maiden name it's just got a line thro it, can anyone explain why this is please.
