Same Charles in the 1901 census (he's a bit older still) Perhaps he took a bit off his age in 1911 so he seemed nearer in age to Hannah):-

This looks like Charles Swan in the 1881 census (same birth place as on the 1911 census although age is out a bit and working in an ironstone mine):-

Perhaps she married two people called Swann. This looks like Hannah in the 1871 census and her birth name seems to be Swan/Swann (gives same birth place as on the 1911 census):-

Wonder if she married his brother

Deaths Jun 1908
SWAN William Chapman 49 Kettering 3b 91

William Swan was a woodman on the 1901 census aged 40 , so 49 would fit as age on death in 1908

Hi Shirley
Work this one out lol
Went back to 1901 census to check for brother who would have been 2. I entered his details and it came up with him, his mum as per 1911 and 3 different sisters (who would have been 15,17,19 at 1911 so could have left home) but his father was william c swan........in 1911 it showed as stepson to charles swan
It seems to much of a coincidence to be wrong with his and his mothers details the same.
Possible same father but never actually married till 1910 BUT why would he change name from william c to straight charles swan?
Thanks sandy :-S

Would seem the children are the mums by a previous relationship. They have then taken the surname of the new husband. .

You can use any name you want as long as its not to defraud or deceive

On looking into 1911 census, my ancester is showing to be step-daughter and her brother to be step-son.
The parents have been married around a year, but both children are 7 and 12
I would assume seeing as they carry the head of the household surname then they would be his...........But if so there is no previous record for the head of the household, which I find extremley strange seeing as he was 49 in the 1911 census.
Could the children be their mothers and he has taken her surname?
Or am I just shooting arrows.
Desperate for guidance please
Sandy :-(
