Jax please........does it really matter........fresh eyes new thread exactly what I would do.

jax

jax Report 4 Aug 2012 06:24

Yes it does matter seeing as the address has been sent twice now,

This is what GR has said under "Help Clinic"

Please don't post about the same person or family twice as this can make extra work for the volunteer helpers.

What fresh eyes?? Its the same people looking at all the boards

NanaSue,
If you look at the links that jax has given, one is very recent, and manx has not returned to either.
So possibly help needed to return to the boards, and then feedback about addresses already sent so that people do not duplicate work.

if there is one thing that really gets my goat it is the self appointed board police for goodness sake drop it

people post on the "wrong" board all the time eg suggestions / genealogy chat / find relatives and then what ?

:-P

Rambling Report 4 Aug 2012 11:48

Rollo, NanaSue would you really be happy to spend say an hour looking for relatives for someone, only to find they had already been found on another board?

If so perhaps you could pop over to the FLR board and help the so called 'board police' who are already giving their time to the search :-D

Roy a sensible voice in the wilderness.

To everybody - chillax ;-)

Cynthia Report 4 Aug 2012 14:05

I'm totally chilled thank you NanaSue.

Rollo, we are not talking about people putting messages on the 'wrong' board, we are talking about people putting the same or similar message on several boards.

Probably, new members do not realise that the people who help them generally look at all of the boards and that posting more than once doesn't have an extra impact.

If a request for help is put on, say, two boards but the helpers haven't realised it, Helper A. could spend half an hour scouring through records in order to help.

They then return to post that information, only to find that it's a duplicate thread and that Helper B. found all that information an hour ago and put it on the other thread.

Now that's really frustrating when Helper A could have been helping someone else.

Whilst I am well aware that we have some members who are quite 'sharp' in their tone when giving advice, most of the guidance given to new members is from others who have had long experience of how the boards work.

I wonder why it is NanaSue that you want everyone else to follow the T & Cs to the letter with regards to posting the names of 'competitors' but YOU don't want them to follow the T & Cs when it doesn't suit you ...chillax indeed.

I've already removed my auto renew Aussietrish, with the changes to the site and the constant cry of "board police" aimed at people giving advice it is not worth trying to help any more.

All the members who give advice do so for the ultimate benefit of the searcher, eg to continue on one post, to post on the 'right' board, to give as much detail as possible etc...and those helpers are under constant criticism lately for pointing out ways that the new member ( or any member in fact) will get the best results...because isn't that what everyone wants?

If I go on a website which I am unfamiliar with I am happy to be advised where to post to get the results I want, particularly when the advice comes from someone who has more experience than myself.

Well done on your helping re adoption and reuniting. It take patience and discretion, but must be much appreciated by those who have had a happy outcome :-D

Gee Report 4 Aug 2012 18:33

Rose, I absolutely agree with you 100%

People are quick to judge the ‘volunteer’ helpers. I mean, how ‘dare’ we have an opinion or a suggestion! How dare we stick to the 'rules' that GR lay down?

But.....don't forget to post all the info you found!

When you help others and spend your own time and money doing so, then maybe, just maybe, you might be in a position to 'judge'

OK, now get back to work, pay your subs and help others.....without saying a word

Rollo I object to this comment

if there is one thing that really gets my goat it is the self appointed board police for goodness sake drop it

Did you look at the other thread where I have actually helped, plus I have pm'd manx advising her how to return to her threads....I doubt it!!!

Well its obvious the addres sent LAST YEAR! was right or there would be another post.......

New people belive this site is split into segments and dont realise board hopping ocurs,,,,,,

I'm sure lots cant remember what they did last week let alone a year ago> >

Manx,You need to contact the Sefton Park area social service to see they took ownership of any records from the home if a council run one. ,as if so and its since closed they will have had them archived ,if it was a national run one you need to find who it came under?there were many Catholic run ones along with Barnados.

Edit,,,,That should read--- Obvious the address sent last year wasnt the right one. -----as I imagine the poster wouldnt be still searching...

jax

jax Report 4 Aug 2012 20:56

Well its obvious the addres sent LAST YEAR! was right o there would be another post.......(why is it 'obvious')

New people belive this site is split into segments and dont realise board hopping ocurs,,,,,,

But that does not make it 'OK' to post multiple posts or to 'knock' us helpers...........for trying to help!
