Some employers were kind to loyal staff and were interested in their general welfare. Perhaps they kept in touch with the family and wanted to help when they fell upon hard times. |

With regard to a servant going from Surrey to Cornwall, it would be worth checking if there were any family connections in both places, ie relatives of either the servant or the employers living (or having been born) in that location. |
