Can anyone tell me how I can find out when an irish relative moved to England? Are there any passenger lists for the pre WW2 period.

My f-i-law joined the Navy and after the war made his way from County Down, Ireland to England in search of work.

Thanks
Dee

There are no passenger list for travel between Ireland and England. You could try Electoral registers, or look for a marriage or births of children in England.

Thank you Potty.

But I know the marriage and birth of children, it was my f-i-law.
I was hoping to establish when he came over.
Thank you again
Dee

He married in March 1952 but we know he was here before that. We think he went home to Portaferry after the war, so it must have been between these dates.

Back then, no one kept any records of travel within the UK - unlike today when there's a dozen photographic records of your last trip to Tescos.
