Hi, I have located an ancestor in the 1861 census in England - Alfred Soupre it appears to be a ship's log with Marines, visitors everyone on board" Would this be a particular ship? The Reference number at the bottom is RG9-4441
ALl of the boys on it appear to be around 17-19 years old, so maybe it was a training school for the marines or something? (there are no other people ) Can anyone help me out here. HE is from the Channel ISlands but there are boys from all over England and Ireland on the census page. Thank you
Janet

Annabel, that was amazing! How did you do it? Also, now that I know he was on the St Jean d Acre, do you have any idea where I could find more records on him in the Navy... he might have had a distinguished career - more likely in the brig with my lot!
Thanks again

Yes, I guess we all have them on our trees!
Thank you so much ladies, you have been wonderful. I put this question on the tip site because I didn't know how to find the ship - I have alot more problems with the SOupre/ Harvey family. I have a thread up on trying to find, under William Harvey and Anne Read ? I would really appreciate it if someone would read it and tell me if they think the family on the census and the family on the ship manifest are the same family. Thanks

Alfred Amy Soupre was baptised in St Helier, 28/4/1844, his date of birth was 15/4/1844 - parents Jean Adolphe Soupre and Eliza Jane Amy. His father was a merchant and the parents stood as godparents.

Siblings showing in the baptism register were
Eugenie Marie dob 10/3/1846 gp Father and Mary Amy
Eliza Adeline dob 16/3/1849 gp Father and Caroline Suzanne Amy

The older 2 siblings were born too early to be included in the on-line registers, but I would guess that the Adolphus who Anne found in St Saviour's Hospital in 1881 is Pierre Adolphe, both born 1837, who can be found with the family in 1851. Soupre is not a common name here.

Emma Soupre gave birth to an illegitimate son, Edgar, 23/6/1870.
