Hi Girls,

Thanks again for the tip. I just thought it best to start a new thread. Hope I've done this right now by changing the thread title.

Update;
Following on from what Andysmum has suggested does anyone have
access to Marriages Overseas either on this site or any other?

Looking for a marriage of Helena Bourke and William Baker 1879 - 1881, possibly in India as that's where their 1st child was born.

Bride was underage so would have needed father's permission and as he was a Corporal in Royal Artillery it's possible the military chaplain married them.

Much appreciate any help or advice.
Regards, Lou

Update; so sorry but have to log off as we have unexpected visitors.

Hi Andysmum, I've not looked on GR but think they are probably the same as FMP for marriage abroard, I've searched on there too with no luck.

But I will try and take a look on there and see what comes up.

Thanks again,

Regards, Lou

Have you tried "marriages Abroad" on GR Search Records above? I don't have full access, but there are 4 possible matches.

Hi K and Ann of Green Gables,

Thanks very much for the tips. Ann I had totally forgotten I'd already tried that site with no luck either. But thanks again for the tip, as I can now add it to the list of places already tried. I must have missed addiding it. So thank you.

K That's a new site to me. I've taken a look as there is a Helena Bourke but she married in the USA! I also checked to see if her husband was listed and there is a marriage match for his name too also in the USA.

The problem is I don't think it's them as they went to India. I can't see why they would travel from England to the USA then to India!

Thanks again,

Update, have checked out the marriage in the USA it's not them as marriage was early 1879 not late her initials are EH not H and brides age is 19 should be 15.

But thanks again for the tip.

Regards, Lou

I would really appreciate help or advice with this ancestor as he's proving to be a bit of a problem.

He left England in late 1879 to work in Jeypore, India. His first child was born Jan 1881 in Jeypore India. His wife would have been 17 when this child was born, so would have needed father's permission to marry.

Her father was a Corporal in the Royal Artillery.

I have searched England for their marriage without success. I have also tried the mormon site and FMP for overseas marriages again with no luck.

Has anyone else got any idea's where I might be able to search for their marriage.

I don't have access to passenger lists and think they only cover the USA and AUS.

His name was William H Baker Engineer and her name was Helena Bourke.

Much appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks, Lou
