hi there
thank you so much for that. As soon as Vause came up i knew it was the right family. This originated as an old family surname that became christian names for two of my family. Mary's sister Annie Jenkinson also lived in the area, but so far haven't found out much about her either other than the two boat records showing her coming over twice, presume she went home after there was trouble back here in England with her brother in an asylum and her mother an alchoholic.
thank you again

Yes, by George, I think you've got them, SatNav! That Vause should be the Ervin who died. No, that's not right. The Ervin who died should be 2. Oops, there's a Herbert who's 2. And the handwriting is beautiful and clear.

OK, Allison, I see where your info came from, Vale Cemetery records, Schenectady, NY.

Philip M. Pashley, 1838-1897; Mary, his wife, 1841-1914; Ervin, their son d. Nov 2, 1882, aged 4 yrs. 6 ms.

But I can't see this family on the 1880 US census, only Thomas & Mary with son Philip.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 19 Dec 2010 17:21

I'm saying that's the right one, SatNav. I think that Allison might have confused his mother's name with his wife's. I could be wrong though. It's been known to happen before (once or twice)!

This looks like the birth of the one who ended up in Schenectady:

Births Jun 1865 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PASHLEY Philip Mirfing Thorne 9c 589

Philip Pashley is not a common name and the fact that this one was born in Thorne and ended up in Schenectady, New York makes me think he must be yours.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 19 Dec 2010 15:23

Are you sure about the names, Allison? The only Philip Pashley showing up on the American censuses in Schenectady is the one I posted on the 1880 census. he was born in England abt 1866/67, son of Thomas & Mary and he was later married to Josephine.
When was your Philip born?
