This is why birth certificates state on the bottom that the cert is not proof of identity. But what do all official sources ask for?... |

i recently tried online to order from the GRO a birth certificate of an ancestor who was born about 30 years ago. I was asked to input a lot of information which I did not have - indeed it was that information I was wanting! My attempt to order with just the usual limited information was refused with a message that if the birth was within the last 50 years then it was necessary that full information was given. Is this a very new requirement? Is it an attempt to prevent identity theft? |
