Thank you so very much! Choccy I dont know what this means, does it mean I will have to travel to National Archives in London to see his records? I am so angry. I paid £6.95 to view for credits, a John Millett's records. I pressed to make the payment. I was accepted. Viewed the page and as soon as 'Lizardtech' had downloaded the 24 pages each numbered and so each to be viewed seperately, a message came on the screen saying "Internet Explorer has developed a fault and will have to close' and it wiped my view completely and closed the screen. When I re-entered the website, my credits had all gone! - I am now waiting for them to send as a 'goodwill gesture' the owing 30 credits, but it looks unlikely. Anyway, back to Millett at National Archives, I will go and try the findmypast site again and heres hoping. many many thanks for all your help. Will let you know how I go on. From Regina

Hello Potty

Never thought of that! I imagined his father was 'deceased' and written on his son's 'Attestation Papers' but sadly, I cannot find any papers at all for Michael Millett Army No: 6328 - I only found his name on the Roll of Honour and the Medal Index Cards. The C.W.G.C. put 'son of the Late James Millett' so assumed this meant his father was already deceased. Thank you for pointing this out to me Potty.

Regina, I wouldn' t assume that because James is shown as deceased on his son's memorial that he died before him. The memorials were erected some time after the war ended and Michael was killed in 1914.

Hello Choccy and if still there, Somerset Girl - Its ironic, I flittled from this page earlier and found myself on the commonwealth war dead page, and came across Michael, who died in 1914 - this immediately assures me his father James was deceased by the time his son died.

I am wondering if indeed this is 13 st.George Street, and so will go off now and see if there was somewhere by this address in 1914! - thank you both for your tireless assistance and if I can be of any use to you when you are stuck with anything, please let me know. The records for Michael say he was born in Kilcloney, Roscommon, on ancestry.co.uk, but think it may be the same place as his brother Edward James, that being in the Parish of Kilclooney, nr. Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.

looks like 13 St. Geo (George) Street, Kingstown to me

Regqueenie Report 2 Oct 2010 22:22

Hello SomersetGirl

Thank you for looking for me. Yes I feel its an address in Kingstown, which is in Dublin isn't it?...however, I wonder seeing that the other brother mentioned a Michael, is cited as the 'Leinster Regiment' and the brother Bernard as Lancashire Fusiliers, I wonder if in fact James is also a regiment and it says perhaps 13th Hussars, Yeomanry Sergeant? standing for the St. Kingstown.

James is at an address on the 1901 census and also the 1911 both seem to be where he is a 'boarder'. The first family he is with in 1901 is the Hollywood family, where the head of the household is a Laurence Hollywood, and his other family in 1911 is with the 'Frizzell' family...the head being a Robert Frizzell. I am so glad I have found Edward's papers because it shows he had another brother a Michael, who was in the Leinster regiment, but again, I cant read the address he is stationed at, just Kingstown, and then some word. I will go back to hunting now, and thank you for taking the trouble to look it up.

MILLETT Edward James in the
'British Army Service Records 1760-1913' Reg: No: 1148 (this is on the 'findmypast' website)

Can someone kindly try to read the 'Short Service, Attestation Of:-'
page 4 ,where the father is cited as 'JAMES MILLETT living in Kingstown. What is the regiment he is in, or is it an address? I can only make ut the words 13 H?
Many thanks, Regina
