Romeo, Romeo, wherefore....?

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Jilliflower Report 25 Sep 2010 18:09

ggrandma Alice Drysdale b 1840 married Jacob Carr in Birkenhead in 1861
she stated he father's name as Romeo Drysdale a joiner.
I have found several Romeo Drysdales but none that fit the dates.
Any advice where I should look please as I can't find a likely Romeo in the census returns.
Any direction appreciated.
Jill

The one witness was R.Drysdale so could be one of the other Romeos I found

When and where was Alice born?

Have you found her on any census?

This could be her birth as I see from the census she was born in Cheshire.

This will give her mother's name and help to find her parents marriage.

Thanks so much for all that help.
I think the 1831 marriage is the one as Elizabeth Drysdale is living with Alice in the 1861 census. and Jacob carr was a ships steward so he was away from home. So Romeo must have died before 1861 but I haven't seen his death.
I'm sure the bith in cheshire is the right one so I shall be sending for that cert.
Thanks SO much for this leg up - I was really wondering what had happened - although it didn't say "deceased" on Alice's wedding cert. and they married in Jan 1861.
I was wondering if the R.Drysdale witness on the marriage cert was a brother called romeo as there was one born abt 1847
Thanks again
Jill

I've only just realised Christine that grandma Isabella is in the 1871 age 3. She died in childbirth having dad in 1902
thanks again for making me look closer at info and read it more than once.

I can't reconcile that one!
Slip of the tongue?
Slip of the pen?
Where would I find those records, Dee - I must learn to do it myself instead of wallowing around and then begging for help.
THanks

Thanks for that.
I did find a death for Romeo Drysdale in West Derby (correct area for family) in 1863.
How odd though that Elizabeth Drysdaledescribed herself as widow in the 1861 census??
