Hi All

I have been trying to trace my Gt Gt Grandfather who originates from Poland/ Russia. I assume he would have had to complete National Service in the 1840s (He was born approx 1822) ? Does anyone know if there are any records which record Polish/Russian National Service? I have tried several polish websites and google but sadly have not been able to identify any records which help me. My Gt Gt Grandfather was an engineer on a ship so I am assuming he would have been in the Polish/Russian Navy.

what was his name and when was he born please?

Thanks for replying... his name was Herman Grabowski / Grabowsky although he also went by other names such as Herman Johann Christian Meyer Grabowski / Grabowsky ... some times plain old John!

I have found him on the 1861 and 1871 census and have his death cert but not able to trace him prior to this
