I have found a rellie who was born in South Africa in 1857 but married in Ireland about 1878. All her 5 children were born in Ireland but were recorded in the 1901 census living in Prittlewell area of Southend along with their mother whi was a widow.

I have Ancestry, but can I access the marriage/birth/deaths for Ireland?

Once again, many thanks. Tell me, where did you go to get the marriage for Maria?

What a wonderful picture this info has painted. I had no idea as to why the children were born in South Africa, but as the father was in the army it all makes sense.

I wonder why young Maria went to Ireland ??? Work for another day I think as he who thinks he should be obeyed and has been watching the Grand Pric...now wants feeding.

I think Charles Christopher Goose was also in the Army and was probably posted to Ireland... hence their births.


The marriage for Maria and Charles was a find on Freebmd.

The ancestry WW1 records are interesting..... he did well for himself.

He names his wife as Forence Ethel and look what I found..... the dates are interesting;

Have looked at Census and he is on page 27 of the Barracks Returns.
Return is for the 1st Yorks.and Lancs.Reg 6th Battalion stationed at Fermoy.
