Moi? Would I say anything derogatory about our Sylvia? I have the utmost respect for my elders ...... lol

Robert, I do hope you will be able to come to my party and that you are thinking about which historical figure you will come as. Maybe the Venerable Bede? Keep it a secret and then give us some clues and let's see if we can work out who each other is.

I think I like that.

Thank you.

Well thats me shorn and feeling better, I have been to the hairdressers, when I turn up needing a haircut my hairdresser always calls me Freddy, as Freddy Boswell from the programme Bread, I have the same kind of unruley hair as he had.I shall be O K now for about 3 weeks when the scissors will be needed again.
The Ven.Robert, that sounds good, well named.
Most of the folk I admire from history are Male, I shall need to put my thinking cap on to see if I can think of a female that I admire. Where is the party going to be held?.
I might try the fish pie one day.
Talking of food I guess I had better start cooking or at least deciding what I am going to cook for our evening meal.
Bye for now , love to everyone
Evelyn.

Sounds Fantastic Cynthia - gosh that will give me something to think about - too many people to choose from.

Nice to have you back Reece - hope you had a good rest.

All this fish pie has sent me into my shell - i will stay with Cynthia - count us out in the fish pie stakes.

Well the Venerable Robert - nice to have you back with us & so very vocal.
Stay out of your shell & join in with the Party atmosphere.

Harry Potter - better to read the books - the films leave so much out - spoils the plot in some cases.

Will discuss later - the phone are ringing again - The bells - the bells
or in this case the beep the beep

EDIT - just seen your note Cynthia - good idea - makes it more fun - I think a shower is a very good idea (Wicked looks from Sylvia & Frank)- anyone noticed this horrid important note box at the side of the screen - will do a screen print

Oh No Kiwibird! It has to be Sean Connery every time for me...........oooh!

Gosh, such a lot has gone on since I was here yesterday that it's hard to keep up!

Robert, our Venerable gentleman....what a nice title and it's so lovely that you have found us again and been willing to venture out of your shell for longer periods - even if you have been talking to Frank in a foreign language. Frank needs all the support he can get.

As soon as you said Fish Pie SRS, my stomach did a somersault because I have visions of white, insipid bits of fish floating around in milk or somesuch but, true to form, Sylvia galloped to the rescue and produced a recipe which at least sounds as though I may.......may try it. Not a big fish lover you see. Mackeral......don't think so. Sorry Evelyn.

Anyhow, our matriachial Evelyn sounds in good form which is wonderful.

Reece, welcome back. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Anne, I've been thinking. I am going to go for a Famous Historical Person Party! Well, we are all into our history on here, so I thought it would be apt. The date is 29th so it gives you a bit of time to think !! Is that okay with folks?

EDIT. I thought it would be fun to give us some clues as to who you are without actually telling us till later !! Hey, I could turn it into a 'shower'............wicked looks from Sylvia....haha
Anyway, back later. Cx

Hi Everyone,

Just seen that Heathrow's been closed again [my sympathies Anne]
and the airspace over Scotland and N Ireland is closed down again.

Warning! Frank make sure you enjoy Sylvia's Fish Pie inside, we wouldn't want you to get showered with volcanic ash while dinning on your Patio.

See I do care about you Frank, thank you for your Computer Tip and you can be assured my Wooden Rolling Pin is back in it's Drawer.

Had a great day at work, had the pleasure of putting some obnoxious rowdy teenagers in their place after a group of them picked up a smaller boy and where going to try and stuff him in a rubbish bin in the School Lunch room. I don't know who was more shocked, Me or them, when I yelled at them; to cut it out ;they dropped the boy and proceeded to sit down quietly.

I am glad you are visiting us again Robert and rather than being a Father figure how does being THE VENERABLE GENTLEMAN of our group sound?

Isn't it amazing that we, a random group of strangers from around the World can have such similar interests in books and movies. ie Dick Francis and Die-hard Movies.

One of our TV channels is currently playing all 20 of the James Bond Movies, one every Saturday Night.

My Favourite Bond's are Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnon and have a liking to Daniel Craig. How about you?

My OH will be walking through the door any minute, so must go and put the kettle on.
Catch you all later Josie

Hi Everyone

Wow !!!!
That is a lot of chit...chat,and it is so nice to see Robert coming out of his shell,he is quite talkative when he wants to .

Reece !! so happy you found us,we nowhave three scottish persons ,where are the Welsh and I think we need an Irishman as well just to make us multi- cultural.

Sylvia That fish pie sounds very nice I may give it a try as well.
What happened with the air plane scare was it Bomb on board ,we heard nothing over here about it.

We went out to the forest yesterday to get some wood and it rained all the time so we came home like drowned rats but we got a very nice load of wood for the fire..

Cynthia we do have quite cold winters here, last night it went down to 2C and only 14 c in the day so it gets a bit chilly.
We then start all over again about Nov - Dec to heat up..you know the rest ,you have listened to me conplain enough about the heat.

Evelyn I am like you I have never seen a HP film ,my frind tells me they are great but I have never got around to them I have always thought they are kids movies.
I will get one out of the Video shop and try one ,what is the name of the first better start with that one.

Well I am off to do some housework, check in later.

Hi SRS

I actually now usually use tinned wild sockeye salmon (213 gm size cans) ..... which I buy when it comes on special. I also use leftover salmon (wild) if we've had a fish for a special event.

I've tried using "white" fish, such as sole ....... but it makes a very monotone coloured dish.

I've made it so often, that I now no longer have "measured" quantities, I just know how much I need to do. You want enough mashed potatoes on the top equal to about 1/3 to 1/2 the depth of the fish layer

Recipe is:-

fish, drained and chopped up
1 hard boiled egg, shelled and chopped up
parsley white sauce (ca 1/4-1/2 cup)
salt and pepper to taste.

Combine in a casserole, add frozen peas (amount to taste) to the mix (or cook and serve separately if desired)

Add a little more milk or water to the mix if it seems dry.

Top with mashed potatoes (I sometimes sprinkle a little paprika on the top)

Preheat oven to 375F

Heat casserole in oven for ca 30 minutes, or until top is browning.

The above quantity serves 3-4 people (depending on size of their appetite). I usually manage to freeze 2 portions.

I often double the quantities, use a large casserole, and then freeze 4 or 5 portions

I make the white sauce with soy milk ......... use 1/2 soy milk and 1/2 water, or it makes a very thick sauce.

Hi Sylvia, do you have the recipe for fish pie? What kind of fish do you use?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 16 May 2010 21:40

lovely to see tha Reece and Robert have found us

Fish pies Frank???? made with mashed potato topping or pastry??

Fish pie is one of our favourite "comfort" foods ...... onlt I make a big one, and then freeze individual servings.

Evelyn ... I envy you, I love mackerel, especially fresh mackerel. It's called Saba in Japanese, and I always try to order a least one piece of Nigiri Sushi with Saba

....................... but that's raw mackerel!!!!

Frank,

When I was involved at Raith Rovers, East Fife, Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath- yes even at Burntisland! the Fifers were noisy, but coming from posh Edinburgh, I could not, as you say understand what they were saying.
Off to bed now. Been out too long today.

FRANK06

FRANK06 Report 16 May 2010 20:10

Well Robert,

Yes I am quite restrained in my manner but perhaps it helps that I am married to a Fifer who as you will be well aware are difficult to understand at the best of times, so anything for a quiet life.
Whenever I try to retreat into my shell, she just winkles me out.

What are you doing with that hatpin............. ouch ;))

P.S. I took my young brother-in-law to see the mighty Raith Rovers play Kilmarnock at Starks Park in the 80s when the crowd (????) was about 300. No worries about anyone peeing down your leg there then..........
