Jeanie,

I am called "Venerable" because I am the oldest, but could you be older?

I come out infrequently because I live in a Shell, but being involved with this lot I sometimes think I should live in a padded CELL.

Must dash before the flack starts to fly. Hope the shell is bulletproof!!

May come out next month.

Hi everyone.
Winter here, after starting off deceptively mild has turned nasty with days of torrential rain and flooding in some parts of the country followed by snow. Here in wellington have got the rain and gale force freezing southerly winds.

At the moment sitting in front of my computer in what seems the coldest room in the house with multiple layers of clothing on, While OH is all toasty warm in the lounge with the heater.

We are waiting to get our Potbelly fixed. A recent inspection found some problems with the Flue.

Unlike the UK and Canada over 50% of NZ homes have no insulation or double glazing and like our house built in the 1940's can be quite damp and draughty.

Houses built after 1990 now have to be insulated by law and there are now subsidies to help homeowners insulate and install heat pumps, however our Landlord lives in Hong Kong and has done minimal maintenance on this place and is not interested in spending money.

So until our Potbelly is fixed I am dressed up like an Eskimo and am spending minimal time on my computer in the evening.

Have decided Cynthia as I love train journeys to Fly to Europe and take the Orient express to Paris then catch a train across the channel and take a further train to your place for the Party. My Historical person would have traveled to Paris by horse and carriage. however my aching bones would not stand up to that.

Hi Sylvia the 2 university's in Wellington had their graduation ceremonies last week, normally they parade through parts of the city in their caps and gowns, but the weather has been to wet for that.
So have only caught glimpses of graduates scurrying into university buildings around the city this year.

Before I turn into an icicle....Brrrrr going to join the OH in front of the heater.
Catch you all later
Josie

Well haven't you done well Sylvia. I'm very glad to hear it. Same reason why the Greyhound Rescue site hasn't been updated for so long. Seems treatments have become so much better. I'm glad all I had to do was take overdose quantities of Vitamin B6. I'm told they do not do that any more - but it worked for me.

Do hope FBG manages to pop into the party. Can tell her face to face how much I appreciate the help she has given me and we can compare doggy tales.

Jeanie

I have to go every year, and I gather they will not stop until I die! Or become too incapacitated to get there!!

I had breast cancer and a mastectomy in 1995. This lot know all about it

I sympathise Sylvia. Not something to look forward to but very sensible to have. I'm over the age when they call you automatically but I have to ring them up and book an appointment every 3 years because I had a scare in the 80s. Glad you reminded me. I should do that before the end of this month.

Agree with you - very descriptive.

Think it's time for bed now. Been a long day. Night all.

squish is my word for mammogram

Not too unspeakable to mention, even on here ..... but more descriptive in my mind!!!

Dozey Report 26 May 2010 23:12

What's a squish? Or too rude to explain on here?

Sorry to hear about the (unrepeatable) Certificate. How disappointing for you.

You could view my beautiful Melody in the Rogues Gallery on the Hampshire Greyhound Rescue site. Hasn't been updated for about 18 months because of illness - I'm supposed to be the editor - but I've had nothing to edit.

I think I've decided on a character and I'm working on some clues. Some might be a little difficult to slip into the conversation though.

Oh Sylvia....ouch! Hope all goes well. Sounds like OH is the one having all the fun.

Ummm....Josie? Anne? Evelyn? Okay I hope.

not sure about the early night

OH will be late home ....... he's staying out on campus after the last ceremony, will find something to eat out there, because he wants to go to the Graduation Concert tonight that includes several of the students he's been with in the Student Opera shows. It isn't really worth coming home for 30 minutes or so!

I'm also usually a late bird .............. so I may just stay up

have to go for my annual squish tomorrow .......... so that will also be an earlish morning, even if I manage to sleep through his alarm!

wish me luck with that one

Right..get googling famous historical Canadians quickly!!

Jeanie, we will need plenty of dog food in case FannybyGaslight pops in - she does occasionally frequent this thread - she has dogs and they're beautiful.

I'm actually having trouble trying to decide who my favourite character is to be honest so will have to concentrate harder.

The certificate I have been waiting for arrived this morning...the mother's name is right but no father! #%#%*#%*#&*%# *&%#*&%# or words to that effect!

Sylvia, that breakfast sounds wonderful - wish you could have saved some for me - I love fried bread. Bet your OH looks simply splendid in his scarlet gown - I love traditional wear for special occasions. Will you be having an early night after such an early morning??

Frank, Irn Bru will be lovely thanks.

Right no messaging done yet so had better get cracking.

Hi Sylvia

Will dog food do? There seems to be more of that around here than anything else!

Must put my thinking cap on to see who I can appear as.

Haven't done much inputting on my tree this week but it's been a good one for getting new leads.

Catch you later.

Morning everyone

OH was up at 6am this morning, so he could get out to the university in plenty of time for the Graduation ceremonies that start today ..... the first one is at 8am!! 6 days of this between now and Wednesday next week. 23 ceremonies in all ..... and he goes to every one of them. He's the Student Marshall.

I was also awake early ... so ended up getting up much earlier than usual .......... and made myself a cooked breakfast. Very unusual for me to have that at home ..... bacon, 2 fried eggs, and a slice of fried bread. But I did use Canola oil for cooking! And I drained the bacon.

Jeanie

May 29 ...... this coming Saturday ............. it's Cynthia's birthday

she wants us all to get dressed up as our favourite historical character

or histerical

but we're not supposed to tell anyone, just drop hints, and let others try to guess

I'm have a continuing debate with myself as to whether I should come as a Canadian figure that no-one will have the slightest idea about!

I know ............... I'm a meanie!!

oh ........ we're also supposed to bring a bit of food.

Haven't got time to troll through all the pages on this thread. Can someone please tell me when the party is so I can see if there is a gap in my social calendar:-))))

Oh Sylvia,

I meant have the freezer delivered rather than lugging it home with your bad back ;)

Sorry...........just my sense of humour.

Hey Cynthia, how about Barrs Irn Bru........that's made in Scotland from girders !

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 25 May 2010 22:07

I'll find space in my fridge Sylvia - fret not. Sounds like your OH is going to be one busy chappie this week - make sure you leave him something to eat whilst you're at my party.

I'd better start moving furniture around on Friday I think.

I'll leave it to the men to bring the 'bottles' I'm sure they can come up with something Scottish :))
