it is a lovely day here .......... sunny, blue skies, temperature around 21 or 22C. We're all hoping that summer is finally arriving!




If anyone wants a laugh, google "vancouver demolition"

...... crew demolishing a building right in the heart of downtown Vancouver on Thursday, about 6 pm, at the tail end of rush hour. First one wall falls into one street, then the other remaining wall falls down into the cross street.

The demolition company says "we didn't do anyhting wrong" "the media is making us look bad" "at the end it is a good news story ............. no-one was injured"!!!!!!!

Frank, I've tried to get on FMP tonight but it's soooo slow - guess everyone who hates football is using it. Might wait for the next England game before I try again!!


It's been very quiet on the main road outside of my house tonight....wonder why????????

Well you can congratulate me - I have made a real prize P**** of myself

Went out to collect hte washing as gettig darker and darker. Smaller basket than normal so washing overflowing a bit and peg box wobbling on the top. Then negotiating carring overflowing washing basket and wobbly peg box going down the garden steps.

Go on fill in the next bit for me - I should have just left the pegs behind - no clever **** had to do the lot at once.

One almighty thump & clatter pegs & washing everywhere & a sort of crumpled heap at the bottom - good job I have plenty of padding on the rear end. OH sticks head out of door & askes the silly question "are you alright " well the answer was no - stupid says "I'm fine go back to the race" OH says let me get my shoes on & rushes out. I am sitting back up on the steps trying with very shaky hands to pick up the washing.

OH picks up washing brushes it down & takes it in - comes back to help me pick up the pegs & then asks can you stand - well very shakily yes.

Get in doors - goes to sit down & ouch - I know where i am going to get a few lovely bruises - off to get the witchazle - OH offers to bathe the bruised area for me - bless him. Then I think my arm hurst a bit - pull up sleeve - Oh dear - couple of chunks out above the elbow and by the side & grazed from elbow to half way down & a waking great black bruise apprearing. Also a very large bump - on with the germalene, witchazle and a bandage so I don't hurt it any more or get grease on the laptop & sofa.

Now feeling suitably sorry for myself with a bumper headache, sore rear & very sore arm. I now have a small glass of brandy - provided by OH - but seem to have stopped shaking now.

Wonder what I will look like in the morning - well from the rear at least.

Hope to pop in tomorrow after our trip out - hope the weather stays fine - I think I may have an early night

Well, Frank, my daughter is half Scottish and she is fairly interested in genealogy but I expect she will be watching the England match today. She's fairly interested in that too. Although she looks more like me she has obviously got the football gene from her father (a Dundee United supporter).

Edit: Should have engaged brain when reading your post Frank. On first reading I missed the point entirely - as I have done in the past no doubt.

I HATE FOOTBALL - I HATE THE WORLD CUP - I have been trying to get tickets for the dreaded thing for weeks and still having problems now - aparently UK customs are stopping WC tickets entering the country. So we are getting copies of the tickets here & sending to our clients and then arranging for them to collect in SA. Who started all this - why can't they watch it on TV.

For somwone who hates the thing - I have several plans of the stadium - a WC plan of all games - I can tell you the price of all the tickets and the best place to watch from - Help I am being taken over by Footie - then its Tennis and match plans - ticket prices - Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

We have a weekend to ourselves and OH teaching for a couple of hours this morning - time to myself.

Have had a very hectic week, first chance I've had to relax at my computer.

In the space of 15 hours I was told about a Job, rang up about it, got it on the strength of the phone call and handed in my resignation a half an hour later when I got to work.

They had been threatening to cut my hours because the business was not turning over enough to sustain 2 of us.
And as it turned out there was a letter waiting for me to say my hours had been slashed from 26 to 16 as of next week. So it was most fortuitous that I have another job to walk into.

My new job is much closer to home, travel time is15 mins instead of an hour, full time hours and better pay and conditions. Will be handling the customers at a local Dry-cleaners store.

Because of my reduced hours in the job I have just resigned from i will be able to work part time at the dry-cleaners for the next 2 weeks while I work out my notice. So I will not lose any income but instead be better off.

As I am not sports minded I really do not care who wins the world cup I am just glad it is not taking place over here. especially as next year we have the Rugby world cup happening here in NZ.

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own tree.

She discovered that both herself and US Senator Harry Reid share a great great uncle named Remus Reid who was hanged for Horse stealing and Train Robbery in Montana in 1889.

The only Photo of Remus shows him standing on the Gallows in Montana County. On the back is an inscription.
Remus Reid horse thief sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885,
escaped 1887, Robbed the Montana Flyer 6 times, Caught by
Pinkerton Detectives, convicted and hanged 1889.

Judy emailed the Congressman for more information about their Great Great Uncle Remus.
Believe it or not Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her Genealogy Research.

Remus Reid was a famous Cowboy in the Montana Territory.
His business Empire grew to include the acquisition of valuable
Equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana Rail-
-Road beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to
Government service, finnaly taking leave to resume his dealings
with the Rail Road.
In 1887 he was the key player in a vital investigation run by the
renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency.
In 1889 Remus passed away during an important Civic function
held in his honour, when the platform upon which he was standing
collapsed.

Have had grandson because he is still on half term and today, he twisted his granddad around his little finger to watch the 1st match. Now normally, granddad would rather pull his own teeth out with nail scissors but he played along happily. It was lovely to hear them chattering and shouting away.


Just had a phone call from a friend who has been on a Norwegian Cruise....sounded really good. The nearest I will ever get is "ferry, cross the Mersey".

I'm sure if England win the World Cup, Cynthia, Anne et all will welcome you back with open arms and they are probably padding out your shell in anticipation of your low key return.

But what if they lose..............

I will not be supporting England as I can follow the country of my birth...France and then of course my son-in-law's country...USA ...ooops ;))

Living in England as I do, it is sheer hell that England are and Scotland are not in the World Cup.
My cave in the Cairngorms does not have TV so I will get peace for a week, but heaven help me if England do WIN the World Cup. Life for a Scot down here will not be worth living!!!

It is a very cold morning today ,got down to 2c last night,now that does not sound like OZ.
Everyone thinks of OZ being hot all the time but really we only get the hot weather from Dec to maybe end of April.......sometimes going into May .
the rest of the time it is quite cool.

It is wages day so I am be off to the bank on my deadly treadly... I always wear my helmet .
