I quite like Clark Gable but found Gone with the Wind tedious to be honest. Not sure what I would class as my all time favourite film. We have watched 'Dave' with Kevin Kline, Bodyguard and Notting Hill quite a lot and then there are the oldies which OH seems to know inside out!


Been really hectic today hithering and thithering but managed to get to the funeral so was glad about that.

We have known the young sibling undertakers since they were children but haven't seen them for a while. They invited us to go and see how they had updated their premises! Well, that's one way to spend an afternoon I suppose...lol their grandma and parents would be so proud of them.


Hope Robert is coping in his cave and not too lonely out there.

got sidetracked again!

Article in this morning's paper said that former students of a now non-existent Vancouver school were celebrating the school's 100 years. The school was closed in 1961, and burnt down in the ealry 1970's. It mentioned that Yvonne de Carlo was one of the famous ex-students (she didn't graduate!).


I did know that she had been born in Vancouver


...... but I had to google her, then that led me to looking up Burt Lancaster, which led to Jack Palance, back to Denholm Elliott, etc etc etc


just had my lunch sandwich, and having a bit of a mooch.

Hi Everyone

I have been shopping all day .

I took the Mother In Law out again today ,this time we went down South of Busselton ,she wanted to check out some more Rose places .
The one we went to the otherday did not have the Roses she wanted,it was a lovely day ....sunny for most of it but rain is on the way back in.

I really do not know where she gets her energy at 90 yrs she can run rings around me.

It is the end of the financial year 30 th June so it is that dreaded Tax time again .
I am not looking forward to doing the books .....it takes me ages to do them.

I am quite tired tonight,already have my electric blanket on,they say we have 5c tonight.

I have not rubbed shoulders with anyone special,wished I had but I don't know what I would say,I would more than likely put my foot in my mouth.

Gone With The Wind is my favorite all time movie,Clark Gable is a hunk of of man or was I should say.
I have the movie and watch it every couple of years,also An Affair to Remmenber,Cary Grant came from Bristol.
Sort of my neck of the woods when I lived In the UK.

Anyway I am off to bed,staying home tomorrow,must get some housework done.

You can stop bowing now Frank. Yes, it was HM and a fantastic day it was too. She is so tiny but the charisma is unbelievable. When she entered through the enormous doors of whichever room we were in, the whole room fell silent and the atmosphere was electric. Tingle time.


So glad to hear that OH is doing well again Reece and I like the idea of you plodding around in blue plastic bags...what fun. My OH has a thing about foxgloves too - can't really see the attraction myself but, each to their own I suppose.


Like you, Sylvia, I can't be bothered ploughing through the tv guide so just watch whatever OH has on and work away on here. Sometimes we just settle for a dvd because there's nothing we want to watch at the time.


Well, done all my messages for tonight so will just browse around for a while. Feeling peckish too.....now, what shall I have??

we have 3 levels of cable tv .......... mainly because OH wanted to watch international rugby and the best site for that was in Level 3. He's watched rugby about 5 times in the last 5 years!

Each level has multi stations ...... I think I have access to about 50 TV stations. I could also buy a digital box which would allow me to access about 100 more!


We watch the 6:00 pm news on a local station for an hour, have a quick look at 7:00 pm at The National from Toronto, watch a little bit (30 seconds to 15 minutes, depending) on CNN, and a little bit (as previously) of BBC World. Usually turn the tv off by 7:30 pm!


Problem is ......... I cannot be bothered wading my way through all those stations on the daily time table in the TV Guide to find the ONE gem that might be on at 8 or 9 or 10 pm!



This has been our habit for about the last 6 or 7 years

........ in fact the last time I watched a series faithfully was JAG, which I really enjoyed.

I used to watch British Antiques Roadshow religiously ........... but I now have no idea when it is on, or which station is carrying it this week!




Got an email this morning ................ J has booked the tickets for their trip out this summer.

All arrive on July 19, M defends his thesis on August 5, then returns home on August 6 (so he can have peace on quiet to make any necessary changes), J and baby stay on until August 20. During this time, she will also get M's thesis + corrections submitted to the university by the deadline of August 16.

They're planning a very low-key visit, but will spend time with family friends on the Island

Well we were already with the white gloves as HM was due in for dinner but she had to cancel so we ended up with Charles instead !

Over the years I saw lots of famous faces and probably my one regret was never getting any autographs..........it just wasn't the done thing in those days and your feet would not have touched the ground, if you had tried to get them.

What's wrong with musicals, they're great and sci-fi...who hoo.

Favourite film has to be "It's a Wonderful Life".........we even have the DVD!

Not 'the HM' surely Cynthia? Count! Of course, how could we possibly beat that, eh? Don't know what Frank will say though!

David Attenborough is my best (though he isn't a film star!) I would say, and the dear OH met his brother Dickie but then he has met all kinds of famous people! We were once in a lift with Lloyd Bridges and his wife and yes, we did have a conversation - about the National Gallery! That is where we all were!

Finished the saga of the ceiling that fell down today - carpet cleaned and looking like new again and stairs and hall carpet as well! We are walking on it (when necessary)in blue plastic slipon bags(?) type slippers until it dries.

Tried to do some gardening by planting some foxgloves from the trays OH grew from seed. Managed about a dozen then had to give up so will have another go tomorrow.

OH has to go to Barts tomorrow to have a blood platelet transfusion and will be there all day. He is making progress once again I'm pleased to say.

I've enjoyed reading about your favourites from the film world - yes, I liked Stewart Grainger and Gregory Peck, too. I'm not mad about the James Bond films but OH liked them and the books by Ian Fleming.

Well its 'cup of tea' time so must away.

I get a fair amount of the scam mails too Jeannie but I just delete them. Some look very convincing though, so it's no wonder people get fooled by them.

Well, had a busy day at the volunteers desk today. Took one lady up to delivery suite and was just hoping she wasn't going to produce on the way!! I was very relieved to get her through the door up there.

I wish they would repeat the martian chroinicals - would love it on DVD - I only have it on VHS.

Never been in a lift with a famous film star. Wow. Think I would have been speechless as well. Who was that said "wish you were"?:-)

Have been getting more than the usual number of scam e-mails over the last couple of weeks. Probably why I got so anxious about the Blue Mountain one. Read my cv, undelivered packages and would you like loads of money are the ones coming in currently. Haven't had one purporting to be from a Bank lately but no doubt one of those will be arriving soon.

we stayed in the same hotel in Leningrad with Elizabeth Taylor in 1975


one evening she got on the elevator we were on

No make-up, wearing a white towelling robe and a white towel twisted round her head



she was absolutely gorgeous!!!!!


and none of the 4 of us in the elevator said a word to her!


She got out on floor 2 and went to the Tea Bar


we all carried on to the ground floor and went to the Bar!



she was in Leningrad making a film The Blue Bird, based on Maeterlinck's L'Oiseau Bleu

With regard to filmstars etc, I served lots of them in my eight years as a waiter at The Gleneagles Hotel and it's very interesting to see them in public and then in private.
The very best were Bing Crosby, Eric Sykes, Sir Sean Connery & his wife Micheline, Robert Stack ( The original Untouchables).
They were famous but also very kind and down to earth sort of people .

At a Pro Am golf tournament in the mid 70s, Bing Crosby approached the hotel reception to change some currency and was mobbed by well wishers and autograph hunters.
The cashier (my wife) offered to take him into a side office to conduct his business in peace but he declined and proceeded to sign books etc and chat away with all those around him............you have to remember he was around 73 years old at the time.

A regular at the hotel, Sean Connery was having a cocktail party in his suite and with one hour to go he phoned us up to let us know the room still had his breakfast table uncleared !!
Mad panic and much grovelling to get it all prepared in time and we made it but Mr Connery could not have been nicer about it, passing it off as "things that happen"

Not so good........Jimmy Tarbuck who decided to start his routine to a packed room before we had served coffee and waylaid us all by shouting at us to just serve the coffee and stop spoiling the gags.............very cheap gag.....funny or not ??

I tend to look for nice people rather than nice looking people ;))

Telly addict time over for now. I was only telling you the ones I thought rather handsome. I've got several show biz type autobiographies on my book shelves and agree they can be really eye opening. Mind you, have found out not to take what David Niven says in his as gospel. Most of the time it was all made up to sell the books I've discovered.

Very glad to hear about BlueMountain cards. Seems like Tabitha and I were getting our knickers in a twist over nothing. Oh, am I allowed to say that on here?
