Close behind you Anne. Have a wonderful week - it sounds as though it's going to be great for you.

Haven't had proper rain for so long here.....just little showers and the gardens could really, really do with a good long soak. If this keeps up, we have been warned that there will be a hosepipe ban.

Been shopping with daughter today - so I'm fit for droppin' !! Am now having a sit down and an ice lolly!

Back later. Cx

Was it something I said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't beleive at 16:30 I am the first visit of the day

Hello - anyone out there - Hello

Glad to hear Evelyn is still about somewhere

Oh well - just wanted to remind everyone I am going to the OUT-LAWS - we leave tomorrow not back on line till Saturday - No Internet - No computer access - I can feel withdrawl sympoms hovering near by.

Thorpe Bay tomorrow - out for lunch as its Fathers Day - back to Hyacynths for the night - Then Dover on Monday for the 65th Wedding Anniversary & lunch with Auntie & Uncle - Tuesday we have the day to ourselves - not sure where yet - Wednesday (weather permitting) Birchington clearing the graves for possibly the last time for the oldies - Thursday its our wedding anniversary Lunch at a posh restaurant on Mum & Dad - Friday we have a day out and then home.

Keep the thread warm for me - Will miss our chats - even thought I don't post daily - I do still try & look in if I can find a few spare mins. The office move went well and all the systems worked - not quite as dark as it use to be in the back room dungeon.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend - except for the weather at the moment - we got drenched today in Canterbury - clothes still dripping in the bathroom.

Oh well will try & pop in again later

Take care all

Hi all

I really wish this weather would clear up ..... although all our weather men are saying that June is usually quite wet, grey and often chilly. I just do not remember having the central heating turned on so much, and so far into June!

First night of The Magic Flute went well, so OH said.

It was "big wigs" night ......... the original theatre on campus has been completely renovated and this was the opening ..... still painting etc being done though!! But the university big wigs, and some others from the local arts community attended. OH said that there was quite a lot of people standing outside hoping to get tickets for a sold out performance ..... and they were all able to get in because a lot of complimentary ticket holders didn't turn up!

The building is known as the Old Aud, short for Old Auditorium ............. originally built around 1930 or so, and used for all kinds of things from performances to drilling by the Cadet Corp, exams, and grad ceremonies. But it has not been used much for anyhting but storage for the last 20 or so years.

The opera company used to hold early rehearsals in there up until 2 years ago. OH said the highlight of those was when a rat ran across his foot! Perhaps that tells you the state it had got into?!

Finally, money was found to renovate it, although it was in quite bad shape in lots of ways. At least they didn't knock it down as they have so many other buildings.

OH says it makes a very nice 500-seat theatre.

We're going to make our first trip up to the cabin next week. A very short trip ... we'll leave here on Tuesday, spend Tuesday and Wednesday night at our favourite motel about 4½ hours from here, then come back on Thursday (possibly Friday morning). We'll drive the extra 2½ hours to the cabin on Thursday, leave the generator and some other stuff, take down the shutters, check the place out, and turn on the water.

So if I'm missing .... that's where I will be. No internet access.

I think our next visit will not be until lat August, after daughter and co leave

off for a mooch, lunch, and whatever

That's good to know Cynthia. Always a worry when people do not communicate for a while - especially when you are used to hearing from them on a regular basis. A PC "dying" really had me worried for a while not too long ago.

I see Ginny is getting behind the England team!

I've had a pm from Evelyn. She's fine but busy helping a friend in her hour of need and hopes to post on here over the weekend.

Hi Cynth

I've popped back on for a short while. Was dead heading in the garden but sky has turned very black. Looks like we are in for a storm. For some reason Metcheck didn't work for me yesterday. I'll see if it is back to normal in a minute.

Catch you all later. Football again! Likely to be quiet for the researchers?

Looks like we'll have to send out a search party for Evelyn.

Poor Anne, you sound rushed off your feet.

Josie? Helloooooo. Josie?

We have these spells of either everyone posting or just a couple.........never mind, everyone knows that they are valued on here.

Fairly quiet day for me which is a change so I am not complaining. Just going to browse through Private Eye and then email some photos to a fairly new found rellie. Cx.

Can you imagine forgetting that the camera thingey was on????? Ooooer. Sylvia....get those curlers out of your hair quickly!!

Best thing that Christine/Abbey can do is to delete the thread, but she may be enjoying the attention. The other way round it is for people to stop posting on it and let it go.

Time for bed methinks. [must check for cameras]

Love to all. Cx.

My son downloaded Skype for me Frank. Unfortunately I've never used it. He gave me his old microphone to use - then promptly took it back because his new one was broken! My friend in Cyprus will just have to phone me the old fashioned way. Well I might, just might, give him a ring on his birthday:-)))

No camera either.

Edit: Just seen the time. Best get my walking shoes on. Dogs have been really under-exercised. Good job they are laid back kind. My bitzas would have been bouncing off the walls by now!

Hi all,

Skype to Skype is always free but you normally have to pay if someone uses Skype to place a call to a landline although there is an offer on just now where it is free for one month.

If you have a webcam it is quite simple to download Skype and be able to see who you are talking to for free anywhere in the world.
Just remember to clean the house, do the dishes, you hair, nails etc before turning on the camera !

http://www.filehippo.com/download_skype/

Shame about our Christine / Abbey / whoever as she really does appear to be a very angry person.

It's almost de rigueur for youngsters these days to be "in your face" about the most trivlal of things and all she has to do here is admit her mistake and tell the helpers what they want to know.
But no, she just drops the thread to start another one with no previous details.

One minute it's all please, ta, smiley faces, the next it's "GET OUT O' MA PUB"

Appologies to Peggy Mitchell...................

Think I must have skipped a page (or two) when I was looking earlier. I'd also like to thank Lily for her message. Definitely need more people to acknowledge the work of the dedicated team of helpers on here. Thought I was doing quite well on my own but then I actually found the right way to get help. Never dreamt that so much information would come through so quickly. One person, who shall be nameless, joshes me about the amount of info I asked for but she never failed to deliver what I needed!

Hi all

Lily ... thank you for that lovely message

Dull grey day here, and still quite chilly at around 14C

Got a pm this morning, names removed of coruse

Hi

My husband 's great grandmother was xxxxx xxxxxx. Her father was xxxxxx xxxxx. Any relation?

From xxxxx

Don't even remember helping anyone with the names she put!!

OK Frank .......... no need for a comment!!

yep, I fear that that other angry young (??) woman has maanged to upset a lot of people ...... even FRANK!

OH is on a Scholarly Integrity Committee hearing today ...... someone at the unviersity is accusing someone else of not showing integrity for some reason or other. He phoned a little ago to say it will be adjourned early this afternoon, and then re-convene in a couple of months. One of the witnesses appeared this morning, heavily pregnant and with some health issues ... so she has been excused until after the event!

That means he might a littl emore of a rest befor going back out there for the opening night of the Student Opera Company production of The Magic Flute! He's in the chorus.

off for lunch and a mooch

Hi

Lucky you Cynthia. Saw the Queen driving past (too fast) on the tour round Britain she took after her Coronation. Also on the drive down the course at Royal Ascot but never up close and personal. Did anyone on here ever meet Princess Di? I would have loved to have seen her.

Catch you all later.

Frank? Wisdom? How well the words go together.

Lily, thank you for that message - very cheering it was too.

So, what has our Sylvia been up to now? Will take a look shortly. Do we need to rally the troops to her defence?

Have never had a list but I must admit it does sound tempting.

Reece, if you are ready for visitors, we are ready to visit!!

Have been very virtuous today and cleaned the house from top to bottom. Washed curtains and cushion covers and am just having a minute before I do some ironing. It must be the sun which makes me go mad. [no comment Frankie boy]

One of my friends here chats to both her daughters - one in NZ and one in the south of England, via a Skype thingey. They are so fortunate to be able to do this and keep up with their grandchildren's progress. I often wish these things had been around when mine were young.

Right.....let me go and find that thread!!

Hi Everyone

Cold wet and windy in the fair state of Western Australia.

I had a good day of housework if you like housework that is! ,I tried to do some washing but unless I put it in the dryer it would stay out on the line and need washing all over again so only did a little bit .

I had a look at that thread that Sylvia was involved in ,what a silly lady now nobody will help her find anything she was really rude and then deteted what she said, anyway she is on my list .
It is getting a bit long now.

We are back up to the Brothers place again this weekend ,a friend gave us a pot belly stove he did not want anymore so we ask the him if he would like it to put in his house and he jumped at it.
Leaving tomorrow back on Sat.

Lily .. thankyou for those nice words and feel free to join us ,we are a very nice group of people who pop in everyday or so and leave a message to bring to the front boards are very helpfull hints for the new members.

I am off for a while, get the dinner dishes out of the way so I can settle down for the night, fire is burning very nice .

Just to say that I have received the phone call from Sydney and it works - so I don't need Skype this end! Now I am more awake I seem to remember that Frank mentioned that he speaks to his daughter in Washington using this.

Enjoy this lovely, sunny day, everyone.

Love,

Lily, what a lovely message - you've really warmed all our hearts. Thank you. Sylvia, Frank and Cynthia I'll have a look at that thread later - don't let the blighters get you down!

Friends, we (OH and I) can take off the blue plastic 'thingies' and we can put a couple of chairs back, walking sticks, umbrella stand, oak table , plant stand with plant and rugs/mats in the hall. Yes, there is still room to walk to the telephone! The sun is streaming in too, (we face East) all ready for visitors once again.

Does anyone have Skype, please. Someone in NSW promises to 'phone me on Skype which we don't have so will they get through? I am ordering some transcriptions instead of certificates of ancestors' marriages.

Must away for now,

Love,

R
