Hi Anne,

Slow, are we............what are you on :))

Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Windows Vista SP2.

Windows 7.

What firewall, antivirus etc?

You don't happen to have AVG 9 which likes to grab resources as it boots up and does a big scan from the off.
Does this happen regularly?

Cynthia, the cellars ??!!...............Our American lot huddle together down in the garden basement when it's hot with the aircondtioning, stereo, 56" plasma, barbeque, bar................sounds horrific.

Oooopp north ......we use the caves but only when (if) it's too hot and once we've seen off Robert's eight legged friends (the Bruce, not our shell hopping friend) although our Robert did mention his fully stocked cave somewhere in the glens.

We too, still have loads of our girls' "momentoes" boxed away and yes, they do pop by and now and then to give them the once over with the "you can't throw that out

................can we borrow your cave Robert ;)

Lots of lovely restaurants in London- lovely prices too - i fancy the OXO Tower the Bistro not the restaurant - wonderful views - I would also love to go to the Jules Verne in Paris - check out the websites -

Off to finish the ironing and do some sorthing out

Need a helping hand from Frank - how can I speed up the computer - its having a bit of a go slow. Did a Defrag & clean disc yesterday also a chkdsk and it was a lot better - today its back tot he goslow mode.

Must be weekend feeling.

Love to Reece if she pops in for a quick read & Jeanie

Take care all - will pop by later.

I have this mental image of Sylvia and family huddled in the cellars during the heatwave. Must have been doing too much family research with people living in dire conditions in cellars in the c19th!!!!

We've had a lovely few days here too but not as hot as that Sylvia........take care, we don't need you getting sunstroke!

Funny how kids still leave stuff at home isn't it? Ours had some stored before we downsized and then it .........went....much tidier!

How about booking a table for us all at one of the fantastic restaurants Anne....we could do with a good get-together and natter. How time would fly!

Sue will be at her holiday destination by now I think...hope the rest does her good and she comes back refreshed and relaxed.

Quite a busy day ahead and am going to a local agricultural show this afternoon. It's been rained off in the past but the weather looks great for it today. Usual dispaly of cattle and horses with sideshows, craftwork displays etc. Will just have a wander around and admire anything which needs to be admired and probably meet old friends.

Take care...must go and jump in the shower. Cx

Hi all

it has been soooooooo hot here that we all retreated down to the cool basement for most of the day

We had lunch and dinner down there.

J sorted through some of the boxes she still has stored .............. throw out, to the Sally Ann, take home with her now, us to take with us at Christmas, or back into storage for another couple of years!!

I came upstairs to the computer about 30 minutes ago ......... at 9pm, it is still 28.5C outside and 31.8C inside. Maximum this afternoon in our backyard (in the shade) was 31.8C

More of the same every day through until at least Thursday!

Josie .... I hate to disillusion you. OH didn't catch the fish ....... he bought it off a fishing boat at the fishers dock. Like you, we don't do hunting and fishing .... tho' we love fresh fish, and deer or moose meat!

Back again - had a few busy lunchtimes - so couldn't pop in.

Finished class room training - gosh those 2 weeks went quickly - thank goodness - now we have a week in the Uni - well I only have 3 days (thankfully)

Hope Sue & Hubby got away ok and have a fun time in Bali -

Congratulations Sylvia & hubby on your anniversary

Frank you do push your luck don't you - good job Cynthia is around to keep you in check.

Cynthia - what on earth went on in your kitchen - how many Grandkiddis do you have?

Josie - you & I seem to be travelling in the same circles - you do all the handling of the posh clothes & I speak tot he people who wear posh clothes & go posh places.

I have found a couple of fantastic restaurants in London - good food & reasonably priced.

Have to vanish to get lunch on - will try & pop in again later today if not 2Moz (as they say on text)

Wonder where Evelyn is these days.

Take care all

Have a great time Sue.

Josie, can you believe that men actually dress up like that? Have seen that sort of thing on the tv.......ah well, takes all types....I mean, Frank enjoys dressing up in a kilt and furry sporran. Says it all really.

Old trout? Old trout? I'll give you old trout!!

Don't even like fish! I'm nippng over to Sylvia's for that rolling pin of hers.

How come we still have a hose pipe ban when it's been pouring with rain? At least it's doing my beans good.

Everyone seen the stickie on TTF? Looks like they are taking some notice of us at last. Time will tell.

Going for a wander around.....

take care......even you Frankie. Love. Cx

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations on your Anniversary Sylvia. I hope you enjoyed your Salmon that your OH caught.

Sadly my OH is not into Hunting and Fishing, Though his Father was a keen Hunter who used to bag Deer and Wild Boar.

OH just couldn't face the idea of killing 'Bambi'

Cynthia yes we do Wedding Dresses and Curtains, we Cleaned a cape and tunic the other day for some guy who belongs to a group who dress up as 'knights Templers' and I presume re- enact historic battles,

It's the social aspect that the job allows which I enjoy about it plus I get to handle 'Versace, Gucchi, Armani as well as other top designers that I could only dream of owning garments like these. The Dry-cleaners is situated in the top suburb of Wellington, lots of Embassies, plenty of wealth. Our biggest clients have their clothes bought in by their House Keepers, Nannies or Chauffeurs.

Take care Catch you all later Josie

I am sure Sylvia's OH will be toasting her health at this very moment while telling one and all that he bagged a good one !!

If not, I'll have to send that rolling pin back tout de suite !

........................all done in the best possible taste :)

Could be worse as your OH could have caught an old trout.

Hi

Thank you!

Frank ...... we honeymooned at Gatehouse-of-Fleet for 3 days, back to Chester, then left the UK 2 days later ...... so about 5 days after we married

BA to New York, economy class

dinner was choice of Angus steak or a fish.

I asked for steak, so did OH

stewardess came back to OH and apologised profusely becasue they had run out of steak

so they gave him a dinner that was meant for First Class

Grouse!

Congratulations on your anniversary Sylvia,

Wasn't your OH lucky to land an old grouse like you on the first day ;)

One year when we worked at Gleneagles hotel they brought in the first grouse of the season in on a hot air balloon...... head chef et all !

They were always trying new ways to bring in the grouse season.

Maybe Anne can give you a few tips on how to conquer your fear Sue. Hope you can relax enough to enjoy things.

We were supposed to have pouring rain today....it's been beautiful would you believe? Washing dried etc.etc.

Have been making some good progress in a family tree I am working on for a friend so feel quite pleased with myself......not as good as Sylvia and the rest of you, but I plod on slowly.

Our friend was discharged from hospital and called to see us....then someone else called at the same time....isn't it just typical that I hadn't dusted! When I do do the dusting, no-one calls!!

Haven't heard from Evelyn in a while have we? I think she was helping someone with a problem so that may have taken her time up.

I expect Sylvia is busy with her daughter and grandson as she hasn't been around for a couple of days I don't think.

Ah well, off for a browse.

Hi all

very busy yesterday ......... OH drove downtown to pick up 2 Swiss friends at 10 am from the hotel where they were staying. Brought them back to the house and chatted ............ until it was time for him to drive out to the airport to pick up daughter and MJ at ca 11:30 am on their return from "oop north".

Back to our house. More chat. Lunch ..... very simple, plates of cold meat, cheese, salad fixings, 2 kinds of bread, and make your own sandwiches.

Then we took our Swiss friends out for the afternoon, leaving J at home with MJ to sort herself out. We drove to an old fishing village about 30 minutes away.

It was originally populated mainly by Japanese Canadians, and there were about 4 canneries there (mainly canning salmon). Then in 1942, after Pearl Harbour, the Canadian government stripped all Japanese of their houses, cars, boats and other assets, and moved them to camps inland and in other provinces .................. racial of course, premise being that they would betray Canada to Japan. Most of them had in fact been born in canada, and some were 3rd or 4th generation Canadian. None was ever a traitor. So a big black mark. Many of them came back to the coast after the war was over, but only a few were able to go back to fishing.

The village still has a much smaller fishing fleet, all but one of the canneries has been demolished and replaced with blocks of apartments and town houses ........... and the one remaining is a National Historic Site where you can see how it used to operate.

BUT there is a fantastic board walk around the ahrbour, lots of good places to eat (mainly seafood!!!), and a number of the fishing boats sell fresh fish caught that morning. OH bought a 3lb sockeye salmon, we'll have it tomorrow night.

Then back home, bbq pork steaks etc, and finally take the visitors home at about 9pm!

I did do too much walking, so am a bit sore today ............... but have to be good to go out for dinner tonight. It's our 43rd anniversary

Opening of the Grouse season as OH likes to put it!

Sue ........... have a lovely holiday in Bali, in case I don't "see" you again before you go.

Take care everyone

Sorry about your OH's back Frank but really glad that all turned out well for her. She needs to be upright to deal with you !!!

Our friend has mild heart failure apparently. He has some medication to remove the fluid from his lungs and has to wait and see how that works. May have to go down the heart test route........oh dear.....a shock for us all but he is remaining cheerful.

Took the grandchildren to the dentist today and then back here for a meal.....after they had gone, the kitchen looked like Beirut...honest injun.....it was worse than Christmas Day! I wouldn't care but I tend to wash up as I go along........ah well. It took OH and myself 30 mins to clear up!

Better get some beauty sleep. Night folks. Cx

Hey Cynthia,

Shame about your dodgy disc but that's what you get for buying Shaun the Sheep's top ten ;))

Seriously though, my OH had back trouble in her forties and was back and forward to hospital for tests which lasted over a year.
They finally relented and admitted her for a disc removal but not before she had become doubled over and walking with a stick which I had to cut down gradually as her stoop became more and more severe.
At the end of it all she looked like a 70 year old woman bent over double but once the operation was over, she was like a new woman and back to normal.

It would have been nice if they had done it all a bit faster rather than have to wait over a year for treatment.

Hi Everyone

Cynthia so sorry to hear about your friend,54 is very young to have a condition like that I do hope it turns out to be not so bad for him and his family after all.

I have been busy today cleaning out the birds cage ,he is going to the daughters while we are away, they do have a cat so the Grandaughter is going to keep him in her bedroom.
We will worry about him he is the only pet we have since we lost our dog.

Frank I cant cuddle up to my other half to keep warm as he make me too hot so maybe men to go though the change as well.

Going to do the dinner dishes.check in later.
